Job Description

Tallman Truck Centre Limited is looking for a Shop Lead Hand to work at our  East Ottawa location.  This is an afternoon shift position.

The Shop Lead Hand is responsible for providing both technical and administrative support to technicians during the day-to-day business operations, maintaining service quality; assisting in profitability and ensuring safe work practices are adhered to. 

To ensure quality, the Shop Lead Hand will ensure all service personnel; Apprentices, Helpers, and Technicians perform their jobs safely and properly and will advise and assist, and give technical advice where necessary to ensure proper recoverable times are met.  The Shop Lead Hand will also recover, when possible, time on jobs to assist in the overall profitability of their position

Job Responsibilities:

Reporting to the Service Manager, this position is responsible for the following:

  •  Providing both technical and administrative support to technicians during the day-to-day business operations as a working lead hand technician. 
  •  Strives for harmony with all departments with a strong focus on teamwork and exceptional customer service. 
  •  Maintains contact with service customers as required on a timely basis and in a professional manner. 
  • Communicates with the Service Advisor on a timely basis on job status. 
  • Provides technical assistance to technicians to do the job efficiently and correctly and training them to develop and hone their skills. 
  • Ensures that technicians follow warranty material disposition procedures. 
  • Prepares repair estimates when required. 
  • Reviews technicians’ repair orders to ensure all information is complete and accurate before the next job is assigned to each technician – including customer billed hours, list of parts by operation, technician stories documented.  Initial and date repair order on the top right corner to confirm the repair order is ready to close. 
  • Keeps up-to-date with the most current information, through training and service letters on technological advances from our Dealership vendors. 
  • Completes Navistar training as scheduled by management – both on-line and in class.
  • Complies with all relevant Health & Safety, and Environmental policies and procedures
  • Expected to have a positive attitude and promote a healthy work environment 
  • Other related duties as requested. 

Qualifications

  • Licensed 310T Truck and Coach Technician. 
  • Diamond Certified (Navistar). 
  • Competency in the following areas required; customer service, administrative skills, time management, team building, proficiency with software and computers. 
  • Strong communication skills required. 
  • Highly motivated individual and ability to work in a fast paced work environment. 
  • Valid Driver’s License and a good driving record.
