Job Description

Urgently seeking a Big Data Engineer who will work with the Data and Analytics team to build a core set of our high-demand data services to form a service-oriented infrastructure to meet the company’s growth trajectories in both data volume and analytics needs. This role is a resource with technical design and development expertise with experience in the Big Data space.

Experience in areas of optimizing management deriving from insights of non-structured non-relational data, and relational data to provide business value from content through information management. Apply big data technologies with related programming languages for analytics and experimentation with large, multi-structured data sets in a retail environment.

Use the latest big data technologies to create solutions that will be robust, reusable, and highly scalable. You will own all phases of the development lifecycle from gathering business requirements, design, modeling, development, deployment, and support.

  • Analyze complex data systems and document data elements, data flow, relationships and dependencies to contribute to conceptual, logical and physical data models.

  • Own the solution for handling large data volume, whether in terms of complex SQL queries and stored procedures, or brute-force caching, or paradigms of parallel processing.

  • Communicate with stakeholders to understand what the analytical needs are and translate them into business functional and technical requirements, to develop solutions.

  • Design and deploy production supported dimensional models, star schemas, and/or data marts.

  • Collaborate with and coach team members throughout the data transformation process, consulting with other project teams as required on the use of enterprise data.

  • Contribute to the development of test plans, develop required documentation, and participate in post-implementation reviews.

  • Demonstrate understanding of application development methods, applying the fundamentals of requirement specifications, design, coding, and testing of business applications systems with ability to learn quickly and apply emerging technologies as required.

Qualifications

 

  • Do you enjoy database development, reporting, and analytics?

  • Have you worked on developing Hadoop solutions with Cloudera or Hortonworks Hadoop?

  • Data Modeling experience

  • Experience in Hive and shell scripting

  • Data warehousing experience

  • Systems Integration knowledge

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with a BI reporting framework (such as MicroStrategy, Microsoft, etc)

  • Netezza experience

  • Retail experience

  • Data Pipelining-Extract Transform Load (ETL) experience

  • Bachelor Degree or four additional years of experience in lieu of a degree
