Job Description

ABOUT US

Tako Agency is a full-service Shopify agency whose mission is to support small and medium-sized companies in developing and scaling their Shopify businesses.

Our blog, the Tako Stand, is an extension of our commitment to setting our clients up for success by way of digestible education, unwavering support, and good humor.

THE ROLES

We are currently seeking two writers and one editor for the Tako Stand. We are open to combining the writer and editor role for the right candidate.

As a Tako Stand writer, you will be responsible for reliably submitting cohesive, well-researched, and properly cited blog posts of 1,000 to 1,600 words. The candidate(s) best suited to this role will have current, working knowledge of eCommerce, the web design and development world, of-the-moment digital marketing best practices, and – duh – Shopify.

As a Tako Stand editor, you will be responsible for accepting original work from writers and performing the first round of line-by-line edits – reviewing for flow, syntax, form, and tone, then proofreading for typos, spelling mistakes, and grammatical errors. Editors are also responsible for checking sources. The candidate(s) best suited to this role will have at least working knowledge of the same elements with which writers should be familiar. Tako editors should keep in mind that we adhere to American grammar and spelling but will actually die on the hill of the Oxford comma. (We love them.)

Requirements (both positions):

  • Exceptional written communication (in native-level English)

  • Experience with Google Docs

  • Ability to adapt writing voice to match the Tako brand (we are extremely snarky but, like…still professional)

  • Commitment to turning assignments in on time and ability to proactively communicate if you believe you won’t be able to make a deadline*

*Seriously – we understand that sometimes life happens and we can almost always adjust expectations to match current circumstances but only if we know wtf is going on. We expect our writers to meet their due dates. If you are not able to meet a deadline, we want to know why – and in advance, whenever possible.

Not Necessary, But Helpful (both positions):

  • Experience with Asana

  • A sarcastic sense of humor

Payment for writers and editors is on a per-word basis by default, but we are open to hearing you out if you’re accustomed to a different structure. Our proposed rate starts at $0.20 (20 cents) per word and we are prepared to offer up to $0.30 per word for a candidate that really blows us away. :)

*Disclaimer: the budget listed in this post is the absolute maximum a writer or editor can make on a post (1,600 words x $0.30/word). We cannot guarantee that this rate is reflective of what you will be paid per post, should you be hired.

If this sounds like your perfect match, we can’t wait to meet you!

If you have a resume, please send it along. Submitting a resume is optional, because we know not all great writers/editors have a laundry list of past work and we believe we’ll miss out on a lot of great talent if we are sticklers for resumes. Whether or not you choose to send a resume, please do submit a cover letter. Somewhere in your letter, please let us know which position interests you (or if both do!) and tell us about your favorite book, movie, or musical artist/band, and why it’s/they’re important to you.
