Consultant Software Engineer Summer Internship

  • Full-time
  • Role Type: Intern / Placement
  • Contract Type: Fixed Term
  • Technical Discipline: Software
  • Department: TTP plc

Company Description

TTP is an employee-owned technology and product development consultancy, with a 40-year track record of helping ambitious clients solve complex challenges and bring innovative, commercially successful solutions to market.

We invent, design, and manufacture impactful products and technologies across a wide range of industries – including healthcare, life science, energy, and communications – and at the intersection of engineering, physical science, and biology.

Whatever your career stage, your expertise and creativity will be appreciated and nurtured from day one. You’ll dive straight into contributing to technical projects, solving complex real-world problems, and being a trusted and integral member of the team.

Job Description

Our summer internship gives you the chance join our Software team, whilst working on projects with consultants from across the business from a wide range of academic backgrounds, from biologists and engineers to physicists. Over the course of your placement, you will get to experience technology consulting in action by contributing directly to live client and internal projects, applying your own knowledge to solve problems.

You will gain exposure to all stages of our work, from the creative process of generating ideas and developing technical solutions, to seeing how client needs influence the direction of a project. Along the way, you may even take ownership of your own internal project, giving you the chance to make a personal mark on the business.

At TTP, we value initiative and curiosity, and our non-hierarchical culture gives you the freedom to explore projects that reflect your own interests. By the end of the internship, you will have first-hand experience of how engineering and science are applied in a commercial context, as well as a clear sense of what it’s like to work in a fast-paced, inventive environment like ours. Our internships are also a great pathway into a career, as we consider all our interns for graduate roles.

Requirements

  • Proactive and self-starting, with a strong sense of personal responsibility and a drive to make things happen.
  • Deep intellectual curiosity and inventiveness, with a desire to understand how things work at a fundamental level. You should be on track for a minimum 2:1 in Computer Science, Engineering, or a closely related discipline, with a strong academic record that reflects your capacity for rigorous, first-principles thinking.
  • Fluency in at least one of Python, C, or C++, with a track record of building meaningful software. You should be able to both write high-quality code and engage effectively with code written by others.
  • Collaborative and emotionally intelligent, able to build trust, energise those around you, and communicate complex technical ideas with clarity, empathy, and precision, regardless of your audience's background.
  • Commercially aware and entrepreneurial; excited by the opportunity to turn breakthrough technologies into real-world products, ventures, and impact.
  • Strategic – able to see the bigger picture, anticipate challenges and opportunities, and navigate ambiguity while keeping priorities sharp and focused.

We're looking for those who don't just solve problems - but who seek them out, thrive on them, and elevate those around them while doing so.

We encourage you to apply as early as possible as we review applications on a rolling basis. You must have completed at least 2 years of your degree when your internship begins, so students at the beginning of second year are welcome to apply.
