Senior Cloud Engineer
- Full-time
- Compensation: EUR 5250 - EUR 6500 - monthly
Company Description
TOPdesk builds service management software used across education, healthcare, government, and manufacturing. We are 800+ colleagues in 11 offices worldwide. Founded over 30 years ago, we serve more than 10 million users worldwide and have been helping organisations deliver better services ever since.
We are an open, collaborative organisation with little hierarchy — people own their work end to end and are trusted to make the decisions that matter. We are reinventing ITSM and ESM for the agentic era, building AI agents our customers can trust, and this role is part of that.
Job Description
About the role
As a Senior Cloud Engineer, you work on the maintenance and evolution of the SaaS platform that 10M+ people depend on every day. You provision and manage infrastructure with Terraform, optimise Azure networking, and run containerised workloads on Kubernetes (AKS) — turning our cloud strategy into clean, maintainable solutions.
You sit in the Deploy, Run & Optimize lane — our CloudOps and DevOps function — where you help keep delivery fast, safe, and observable. You operate agents yourself and bring our AI-native ways of working into how infrastructure gets built, changed, and remediated.
What this is not: A ticket-driven ops role kept away from the code. You own infrastructure as code, contribute to the backlog, and are close enough to the platform to design it — not just react to it.
The team
You join Team Placeholder, one of the SaaS platform teams in the Deploy, Run & Optimize lane, based in our Delft office. We are a group of social technicians who value transparency, open feedback, and a healthy work-life balance.
What you'll do
Provision and manage infrastructure with Terraform, delivered through CI/CD.
Optimise Azure networking and configuration, and run containerised workloads on Kubernetes (Azure AKS).
Ensure technical alignment within your team and translate the cloud strategy into clean, maintainable solutions.
Contribute actively to prioritising the backlog and delivering high-quality cloud improvements.
Strengthen observability, reliability, and cost-efficiency across the platform.
Bring AI-native ways of working — agents, subagents, and shared patterns — into how the team builds and operates infrastructure.
Technical environment
Cloud: Azure at multi-tenant SaaS scale; Kubernetes / Azure AKS.
Infrastructure as code: Terraform via CI/CD; configuration tooling such as Puppet or Ansible.
Observability: metrics and monitoring stacks (e.g. Influx, VictoriaMetrics, Grafana).
Legacy: Java, MS SQL, heritage architecture — being decomposed.
How we build: Claude Code as our primary AI-native SDLC tool; subagents and multi-agent workflows; MCP tool integrations; shared prompt, agent, and eval libraries.
Qualifications
Required
At least 5 years as a cloud engineer, specifically with Azure.
At least 3 years with Terraform delivered via CI/CD.
Strong knowledge of Azure networking and configuration tools such as Puppet or Ansible.
Experience with containerisation (Kubernetes, Azure AKS).
A structured approach to SaaS complexity, with a programming background.
Excellent written and spoken communication; a collaborative mindset that spots dependencies early and works well with non-cloud teams.
Nice to have
Familiarity with observability tools such as Influx, VictoriaMetrics, or Grafana.
Developer Experience Engineering — building golden paths and tooling other teams ship on.
Current, personal practice of AI-native software delivery (Claude Code or equivalent).
Experience with EU data residency / sovereign cloud requirements.
