Summary of the work
DVLA requires a Web Operations (Cloud Engineer) to support the Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) Reform Project with the delivery of a series of high-profile changes aimed at meeting the commitments outlined in the Summer '15 budget and facilitating a strategic shift away from legacy technologies.

About the work
Who the specialist will work with
The successful candidate will be working within a product-centric environment utilising agile, and iterative development practices. There are currently 2 development scrum teams supported by development teams which include the following roles;
- Product Owner/Business SMEs
- Scum Master
- Business Analysts
- Interaction Designers
- Developers
- Testers
- Domain/Solution Architects
- User researchers
What the specialist will work on
Supporting the web operations development of DVLA's Vehicle Excise Duty (VED) Reform project including, but not limited to;
- Operational management of Linux servers, delivering a complex web application stack
- Building and configuring new server platforms, machines and the automated tooling
- Testing, debugging and troubleshooting of platform level problems
- Supporting development teams with configuring applications for deployment
- Creation and maintenance of standardised operational configurations and documentation
- Installation and management of open source tooling/software
- Enablement of in-house capabilities are required
Work setup
Address where the work will take place Swansea
Working arrangements Onsite 5 days a week. 8 hours per day exclusive of lunch and travel. T&S charges only apply for staff that commutes over a 75 mile journey in each direction. This is based on the distance that would be reasonable to expect a person to commute to the principal location(s). T&S is only applicable at the following maximum rates (excluding VAT): i. For T&S including travel but no overnight stay: Suppliers plain day rate plus £45.00. ii. For T&S including overnight stay: Suppliers plain day rate plus £90.00.
Security clearance Individual must be SC Cleared.

Skills and experience
Essential skills and experience
- A high level of proven experience of working with Amazon Web Services and Amazon cloud environments using automated deployment toolsets; Ansible is preferred
- Provide guidance and influence the team and wider Agency on the implementation methods and standards in relation to cloud infrastructure and its deployment
- At least 3 years of hands-on working experience with Red hat Linux, Ubuntu or other operating systems in a cloud environment.
Nice-to-have skills and experience
- Strong infrastructure background to help deliver crucial, Government digital projects
- In addition to Ansible, experience using other configuration tools such as Chef and Puppet
- Experience with software integration and deployment; Jenkins expertise is preferred
- Experience in cloud-based auto scaling and load balancing
- Experience of configuration and management of scanning, malware detection and antivirus tools
- Experience using monitoring and analytics tools such as Zabbix, Pingdom, and Google Analytics
- Experience with the installation and management of open source monitoring tools
- Experience of deploying and configuring machines in a cloud environment other than in AWS
- Understanding of application deployment strategies and continuous integration
