Job Description

The Podcast Publishing and Programming Specialist is a unique position at the TED Audio Collective for early career generalists that can combine  technical know-how with editorial prowess. The Podcast Publishing and Programming Specialist offers key support in managing podcast publishing and programming processes, gaining hands-on experience in the creative editorial work that makes TED’s podcast network standout in the marketplace. This role requires attention to detail, technical proficiency, and the ability to work efficiently under tight deadlines. This role reports to the Executive Editor and Producer, Podcasts with a dotted line to the Director of Publishing & Social.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

PROGRAMMING AND EDITORIAL 

  • Metadata and Descriptions: Drafts and optimizes episode titles, descriptions, and show notes for SEO and audience engagement

  • Outreach and Booking support: Supports curation in tracking guest outreach with speed, professionalism, and enthusiasm with internal and external teams

  • Scheduling: With the Executive Editor, works on scheduling episodes for release according to the TAC editorial calendar, ensuring timely publication and that marketing and editorial calendars are in sync

PODCAST PUBLISHING

  • Manage the daily technical publishing process of all TED Audio Collective podcasts including liaising with various producers and production teams, as well as editorial, publishing, and programming leads 

  • Maintain and systemize each podcast’s Airtable to ensure congruence between shows, and up-to-date information for other TED teams to view

  • Lead the storage and file management of TED’s audio assets, providing key information such as specs, file segmentations, and nomenclature to producers

  • Verify audio files for quality, completeness, and proper formatting before and after upload 

  • Quality controls uploads for any issues, troubleshoots problems, and liaises as needed.

  • Work with podcasting publishing platform partners to create and launch RSS feed onto platforms 

  • Undertake miscellaneous projects and tasks as needed

OPERATIONS AND ANALYTICS

  • Artwork and Media:  Manages show artwork and any promotional assets used by guests 

  • Analytics: With the Executive Editor and Senior Data and Insights Manager, tracks and reports on episode performance metrics, download statistics, and audience engagement

RELATIONSHIP MANAGEMENT 

  • Platform Management: Maintains and updates podcast RSS feeds and our publishing platforms; Manages episode uploads and pages on TED.com; Delivers assets to international distribution partners and any internal stakeholders

  • Host support: Manages positive and productive relationships with hosts by handling questions and concerns with special regard for troubleshooting on episode release days; With the Executive Editor, coordinates quarterly meeting with hosts to discuss performance, development, and check-ins regarding production schedules

  • Collaboration: Works closely with production, marketing, and editorial teams to align on episode releases, promotional strategies, and execution of special series

Qualifications

  • At least three years of professional experience with demonstrated skills in digital project management and coordination and/or publishing 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills including experience copywriting and web content writing and familiarity with style guide and best grammar practices

  • Passion for podcasts and digital media

  • Previous experience in podcast production, digital media, or a related field is highly desirable

  • An eye for detail and a willingness to learn new technologies

  • Excellent problem-solving skills

  • Self-starter that can troubleshoot with speed and accuracy

  • Creative thinking and exceptional organizational skills

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines efficiently

  • Comfortable working independently and as part of a team

  • Familiarity with SEO best practices, RSS feeds, and digital content management

Additional Information

Salary Range: $70,000 - $90,000
