Job Description

This is a short-term, temporary contract role for in-person, onsite support at the TED2023: Possibility conference in Vancouver, BC, Canada. You may be asked to work some or all of the dates between April 9 and April 21, 2023. The successful applicant will be responsible for any travel, accommodation and meal costs.

As the Food + Beverage Activations Assistant, you’ll support a variety of onsite food and beverage exhibitors and other popup activations aimed at elevating the attendee experience. You’ll be responsible for greeting partners upon arrival, supporting their involvement onsite and ensuring they have all the necessary specifications to run their activities safely and successfully. This includes: supervising a team of support staff to manage supply inventory and regular deliveries of materials + consumables, assisting with partner load in + load out, ensuring waste and grey water are disposed of safely, ensuring health/sanitation regulations and COVID-19 best practices are adhered to, communicating regularly with partners and going above and beyond to support them operationally.


You’re energetic and detail-oriented, with a strong work ethic. You're also communicative, proactive and resourceful, able to remain calm and discreet when solving problems. You follow instructions well, and you're comfortable working under minimal supervision.


This is a labour intensive position. You must be able bodied and willing to lift and move at least 50lbs. This position involves standing and walking for long periods of time, and using pallet jacks and handheld dollies to transport product throughout the conference spaces.

Responsibilities: 

  • Supervise support crew; managing breaks and schedules, and delegating assigned tasks and duties
  • Oversee and support load in and load out of all partner spaces, ensuring all specifications are fulfilled while addressing any complications that arise
  • Respond to partner needs and feedback quickly and efficiently, maintain stock levels and manage removal of waste and grey water
  • Ensure each activation has the correct cleaning solutions including spray bottles, rags, running water, soap and bleach/water solution
  • Ensure partners are operating in line with health/sanitation regulations and that TED’s COVID-19 safety measures are adhered to at all times
  • Act as main point of contact for all Food + Beverage partners, using critical thinking to address challenges on the fly
  • Work with the Experience Production team and external partners and stakeholders to ensure the success of their experiences

Qualifications

  • Previous experience in food and beverage, hospitality or similar discipline is required
  • Experience leading a food and beverage program is an asset
  • Foodsafe Level 1 is an asset
  • Able to work well under little supervision, with excellent time management skills
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Proactive and resourceful; anticipates partner needs and acts promtply
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills
  • Calm, kind and discreet
  • Fluent in English
  • Able to stand for long periods, and participate in physical work and heavy lifting of up to 50 lbs
