Job Description

NOTE: This is a fixed term contract until 30th April 2027.

This role sits within the Actuarial Systems team and is responsible for maintaining, enhancing, and developing actuarial data systems that support liability and capital valuations, embedded value reporting, and business planning activities. The role provides technical leadership and guidance to the Actuarial Systems team across the design, development, testing, and implementation of data systems and processes, primarily integrated with the Prophet Enterprise platform. Working as part of TAL’s broader Actuarial Systems function, the position contributes to a portfolio of business initiatives, model enhancements, and strategic projects, including AASB 17 implementation and the integration of TAL and Asteron Life operations. Development activities are predominantly undertaken using Microsoft SQL Server technologies.

In this role you will:

  • Deliver structured data to business stakeholders plus internal applications and systems such as FIS’s Prophet Enterprise calculation engine, TAL data marts / data warehouses (SQL, Azure), reporting tools and PeopleSoft general ledger.
  • Analyse and specify data requirements for iDR (insurance data repository)
  • Prepare end to end solution to meet end user requirements
  • Develop to specifications using iDR toolkit, which consists of MS SQL Server and scripting Tools (PowerShell & Cmd).
  • Perform and document system testing activities (unit testing, end to end testing, etc.)
  • Design and build SQL data steps on the platform to be leveraged by Finance and Actuarial end users in automated data transformation processes.
  • Work with the Platform Architect to ensure governance and design standards are adhered to across initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Strong SQL knowledge and development experience
  • Experience with design and developing data reconciliation & metadata driven data processing frameworks
  • Cleansing, manipulating or joining large volumes of data to facilitate analytics
  • Experience in building real time or batch ingestion and transformation pipelines.
  • Experience working in the Financial Service Industry

Desirable:

  • SQL Database design experience
  • Broad knowledge of application development tools, techniques and languages including C#, ASP.NET, T-SQL, IIS, Bootstrap, JQuery, Azure DevOps, GIT,
  • Python, R, XML, JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Reporting layer development experience, setting up base analytics packs / dashboards in visualisation packages for use and tailoring by clients
  • Experience with Atlassian software workflow and documentation tools – JIRA and Confluence
  • Exposure to FIS insurance suite of products – Prophet
