Job Description
Position Summary:
At Syngenta, our goal is to build the most collaborative and trustworthy team in agriculture, providing top-quality seeds and innovative crop protection solutions that improve farmers' success. To support this mission, Syngenta’s Production & Supply Team is seeking a Process Engineer at our site in Brits, South Africa. This role plays a key part in new product and technology integration, data-driven performance improvement, manufacturing excellence and drives continuous improvement in safety, quality, delivery, cost and efficiency by monitoring plant performance, identifying bottlenecks, implementing process engineering solutions. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing specialist chemical formulation, process engineering expertise to ensure the safe, efficient, and reliable operation of manufacturing plants.
The role will be OHSA 8(2)(i) appointee for the site.
Accountabilities:
- Identifying, designing and implementing process improvements that enhance efficiency, quality, safety, and cost performance while supporting sustainable operational excellence across the formulation and F&P plants
- Managing projects and apply process engineering skills and liaising with design contractors following the Syngenta standard project process
- Championing manufacturing excellence by driving value‑adding process improvement initiatives to improve OEE, unit operating cost, reliability, safety, and environmental performance
- Management of Change process and ensuring all plant changes are properly reviewed, approved and implemented
- Supporting Process Safety Management objectives through participation in and execution of activities such as MOC implementation & closure, Process Safety Information upkeep, incident investigations and process risk assessments
- Supporting Production Supervisors and other functions to drive OEE improvements on the Formulation and Fill & Pack lines
- Supporting the Production Order process to ensure it is well managed and executed
- Adapting an operational culture adhering to all applicable HSEQ and Engineering policies, procedures and guidelines
- Being a process support and a local expert for manufacturing area in formulation and F&P technologies
- Providing day-to-day technical support to production and resolving operational issues
- Supervising Formulation and Fill & Pack teams as required
- Providing high quality practical advice and judgements by applying scientific method, theoretical knowledge and broad experience of similar situations
- Own and drive the resolution of complex and/or recurring process-related operating issues and ensuring effective and sustainable corrective actions are implemented
- Driving New Product Introductions and product transfers across sites
- Ensuring plant capability, capacity and improvements are captured and updated to align with siting team
- Leading root cause analysis (RCA) for HSEQ deviations
- Facilitate and participate in Process Risk Assessments / HAZOP
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical / Process Engineering or equivalent
- Minimum 2-5 years of experience in a manufacturing process environment
- Hands-on experience in Continuous Improvent, Data analysis and unit operation
- Demonstrated leadership capability
- Detailed knowledge of processes technology, troubleshooting and providing technical solutions
- Project management and implementation
- Practical and theoretical knowledge of chemical processes and manufacturing
- Six sigma and SAP knowledge (Advantageous)
- Flexibility to work across different shifts and hours
