Job Description

Role Overview

A Senior Commercial Leadership opportunity to shape and drive the Weed & Disease Control portfolio strategy within our Crop Protection business - delivering sustainable growth through a deep understanding of regulatory, sales, marketing, and product development dynamics.

The purpose of the role is amongst other things:

  • Design Syngenta's long-term Weed & Disease Control portfolio strategy, aligned to market needs, regulatory requirements, and the global Crop Protection Development (CPD) pipeline
  • Drive margin resilience and long-term growth by actively managing portfolio lifecycle value - from launch through maturity and beyond.

Accountabilities

  • Lead the 3–5 year portfolio roadmap - setting clear strategic positioning for each brand and product (premium, core, defensive, biological, or phase-out) and steering the Product Leadership Team (PLT) process
  • Own the full product lifecycle from concept to phase-out, including building and securing approval for robust business cases before any launch decision is made
  • Track in-market performance against original business case assumptions and take decisive corrective action where results diverge
  • Connect local portfolio priorities with global pipeline opportunities, and actively shape the direction of Crop Protection Development (CPD) to reflect market realities
  • Hold accountability for portfolio revenue, margin mix, and the strategy to defend against Loss of Exclusivity (LOE)
  • Make clear investment prioritisation and trade-off calls across the portfolio, especially under resource constraints
  • Convert market signals - regulatory shifts, resistance trends, competitive moves - into concrete portfolio positioning, pricing boundaries, and innovation focus areas
  • Deliver sharp, actionable portfolio insights, risks, and recommendations to the Marketing Head and Leadership Team
  • Maintain consistent, transparent portfolio reporting and risk management across all functions

Qualifications

Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Degree in Agriculture, Business, or Science
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in marketing, portfolio management, or related field within agriculture
  • Deep understanding of crop protection, R&D processes, and regulatory environments
  • Proven track record in portfolio or project management with demonstrated ROI delivery
  • Strong strategic and analytical thinking with expertise in data-driven decision-making
  • Experience with financial and value-based decision frameworks (VOI, ROI)
  • Excellent cross-functional leadership and stakeholder engagement capabilities
  • Ability to translate agronomic and technical knowledge into clear business value and strategic recommendations
