Job Description

Maintain packaging equipment for safe, efficient, and high-quality operations. Typical duties include preparing equipment for upcoming production campaigns; monitoring equipment during production and making online adjustments as needed; keeping a log of maintenance activities required and performing those activities in a manner not to interfere with production; self-driven learning of new technologies in the packaging industry, as well as in PLC programing in GUI creation and upgrades. Develop and maintain open communication with contract line technicians to understand intermittent issues with equipment, as well as ways to make equipment safer and more efficient.

Duties:

  • Monitoring equipment during the packaging process.
  • Maintaining equipment during packaging downtimes to maximize equipment efficiency and uptime during operation.
  • Research purchases and oversee new packaging machine installations.
  • Understand and interpret technical manuals, sample systems drawings, P&ID’s and PI historian.
  • Assist in planning and schedule of work to meet overall maintenance and production requirements.
  • Maintain and update technical information, drawings, calibrations, and maintenance records.
  • Proactively seek to improve and implement equipment and solve operational problems, to improve plant reliability and to reduce operating cost.
  • Becoming an expert on all packaging equipment within the unit and educating shift personnel on the safe and proper operation of the packaging machines.
  • Embracing a continuous improvement mind set and using a self-driven approach to implement improvement ideas.
  • Covering shift personnel responsibilities when shift is shorthanded or unavailable.
  • Collaborating with instrumentation personnel on PLC issues throughout the plant and provide support if needed.

Qualifications

  •  2 yrs. formal electrical training/schooling (Vo-Tech, ABC programs) preferred.
  • Excellent understanding of equipment automation and Troubleshooting, maintenance, and repair of packaging equipment issues.
  • Basic PLC ladder logic knowledge.
  • Basic understanding of HMI (Human Machine Interface) programming.
  • Understand and use engineering documentation systems such as P&ID’s, one-lines, ladder diagrams, C-7’s, electrical schematics.
  • Able to adapt to changing technology and identify new applications.
