Job Description
Role Purpose
As C, I & Automation Engineer, your primary function would be to design, maintain and improve Syngenta Brits Formulation, Fill & Pack (FFP) facility’s control, instrumentation and automation infrastructure and systems. to ensure the efficient and reliable operation.
As C, I & Automation Engineer, you will drive site Control, instrumentation and automation systems and maintenance improvements whilst executing 1st level support for onsite manufacturing- and automation infrastructure and maintenance thereof, in collaboration with the site Production, Engineering teams as well as with Syngenta’s regional and Global engineering/maintenance networks. You will be expected to support the Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) and the associated functions and safety lifecycle.
The incumbent will be required to do standby and plant support from time to time or when circumstances require him or her to do so.
Accountabilities
1. Safety:
Accountable for enforcing safe work practices and procedures in the Engineering Department including performing Preventative Maintenance activities, safety and inspections as well as adhering to all Syngenta HSEQ standards
Accountable to design, implementation and maintenance of Safety Instrumented Function, SIFs and related Safety Instrumented System (SIS), which usually consists of sensor(s), controllers and final control element(s) that perform the shutdown action necessary to bring the process to a safe condition.
Understanding and deployment of IEC61511 standard (Safety Instrumented Systems for the Process Industry Sector) for SIS Design and implantation in the process industries
2. Upheld applicable Engineering Codes/Standards and regulations
- Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and regulations
- Ensure that control systems comply with industry standards and regulations.
- Knowledge of industrial network engineering and configuration; Ethernet, Profinet/bus, Modbus/TCP etc.
- Asset integrity according legal and corporate regulation.
- Maintain accurate records of all maintenance, repairs, inspections, and modifications performed
3. Improve Asset Condition
- Installing or maintaining criticality on assets according to company guidelines.
- Following up, coordinating and giving advice on the asset care strategy items like time, condition, or proactive based all driven by criticality.
- Driving focus improvement on asset care for the site.
- Keeping asset care info up to date in the CMMS.
- Contribution(S) to Syngenta Asset care and reliability communities will be expected from time to time
4. Maintain and improve Site Electrical, Control, Instrumentation Automation infrastructure
- Maintaining and supporting site manufacturing systems such asPLC , SCADA, , OEE, OT Network and MES etc.
- Functional analysis and preparing specifications for instruments, systems and installation.
- Implements instrument detail design on P&ID's.
- Compiling instrument data sheets, loop diagrams and material take-off.
- Calibration of field instrumentation
- Researching and implementing new digital transformation on assets
- Create electrical schematics, diagrams, and control panel layouts.
- Implement safety and alarm systems for process control.
- Integrate control systems with existing equipment and processes.
- Ensure seamless communication between various control devices and subsystems.
- Conduct system testing to verify functionality and performance.
- Perform routine maintenance and preventive maintenance activities.
- Provide technical support to maintenance team during breakdowns
5. Improving Control, Instrumentation and Automation systems.
- Providing 1st line support for the site manufacturing systems such as SCADA, PLC, OEE, etc. including the maintenance and resolution of production- and downtime issues.
- Taking ownership and implementing changes to optimise the configuration of the actual plant process systems like PLC systems, Scada (Automation).
- Working closely with the Syngenta’s Engineering, Maintenance and Manufacturing Network to implement automation systems and best practices.
6. Management of Change, Projects, and Capital Expenditure management
- Design and develop electrical control systems and instrumentation solutions based on project requirement
- Provide technical input for control system functional specifications.
- Design, engineer, and commissioning of all automated systems
- Specify field instrumentation and design integrated control systems (PLC’s, SCADA or DCS systems)
- Design control system networks (PLC, Switchgear, and Vendor / Client systems)
- Review client proposals in terms of control and instrumentation engineering and design Write equipment and installation specifications and Scope of work documents
- Assist in planning and reviewing of technical work and maintaining project schedules
- Good understanding of standards to evaluate quality of installed systems
- Perform point to point wiring and functional checks as well as fault finding on systems
- Field Commissioning of automated systems
- Evaluate vendor proposals for clarification and equipment procurement.
- Control systems FAT and SAT
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage projects, budgets, and timelines.
7. Improving Engineering Competences and capabilities
- Organising, training and coaching RCA and FMEA on site.
- Coach and train Maintenance Technicians on control and instrumentation.
- Coaches and develops the engineering skills of other maintenance and operational staff.
8. Team work and collaboration: with all Site functions (production, Process, Man Ex and P&S)
Qualifications
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
Critical Knowledge
- BSc / BEng / BTech (Electrical or Control and Instrumentation or Automation Engineering ) or similar
- A minimum of eight (8) years’ experience within instrumentation and control maintenance,
- A minimum of 5 years’ experience with Controls or SCADA systems.
- Must have advance knowledge doing fault finding on multidisciplinary control, electrical and instrumentation and OT network systems.
- Experience with Emerson DeltaV, Yokogawa and Siemens PLC, experience in Rockwell Automation or any automation system will be advantage..
- Knowledge of bus technologies, such as Foundation Fieldbus, ASI-bus, and/or Profibus is preferred.
- Must have experience with Safety Instrument Systems and Safety Instrumented Functions (design/support)
- Experience in SIPFs and SIS in accordance with IEC61511 standard in the chemical process industries
- Must have experience in process optimization, maintenance and site/plant support.
- Ability to work across disciplines, have excellent communication skills and ability to work well with others
- Demonstrated ability in planning and organizing, controlling, coordinating, and directing engineering activities
- Understanding of Work Management Process experience
- Computer literate, proficient in Excel, Outlook, Work and CMMS systems (e.g., SAP PM/ Maximo or any other similar systems)
Critical skills
- Previous experience in electrical control and instrumentation engineering or a related role is required.
