Job Description

Accountabilities:

  • Ensure environmental management activities are carried out in line with business objectives to comply with regulatory and Syngenta requirements, minimize liabilities and ensure company reputation is maintained
  • Provide technical expertise to ensure Syngenta AMEA operations comply with the environmental elements of Syngenta’s HSE Management System
  • Be an active member of the Syngenta Global Environmental Centre of Expertise to drive continuous improvement in environmental management standards and ways of working
  • Support environmental competence development, and deliver specialist training to HSE professionals and other Syngenta colleagues
  • Participate in the Syngenta Global HSE Management Audit program and other audits (contractor / supplier) to assess environmental management and other HSE management subjects
  • Support environmental remediation projects in collaboration with the internal and external resources to deliver agreed objectives in accordance with the Environmental Provisions process
  • Support environmental reporting and participate in incident investigations to identify corrective action, identify trends, and drive continuous improvement
  • Represent Syngenta’s environmental interests in industry groups and other third-party organizations

 

 

Key Skills & Experience:

  • At least 10 years environmental management and / or environmental remediation experience in environmental consulting, chemical manufacturing, or similar
  • Extensive management of environmental projects and initiatives
  • Independent work without close supervision and with limited guidance
  • Provision of technical expertise within multi-disciplinary teams
  • Influencing key stakeholders, regulatory authorities and other third parties to achieve appropriate and proportionate management of environmental risks and liabilities
  • Master’s degree in environmental engineering, environmental science, hydrogeology or related science
  • Technical expertise in key environment management subjects
  • Broad understanding of general environmental regulatory requirements regionally. Able to quickly assimilate and apply new technical and regulatory knowledge
  • Proven knowledge in environmental auditing and assessment to enable identification of strengths and weaknesses in HSE management and compliance systems
  • Proficiency in English is essential. Additional Asian language(s) skills are beneficial
  • Experience and competence in other areas of HSE management advantageous

Complexity:

  • Provide technical guidance on a full range of environmental matters across all Syngenta activities including chemical manufacturing, seeds production, R&D and supply operations.
  • Work across multi-cultural and multi-discipline teams with different local practices and regulations; ability to quickly develop an understanding of businesses / operations, and to assess risks and adequacy of controls.
  • Manage diverse environmental projects in coordination with internal and external resources
  • Influence others to ensure appropriate risk and liability management objectives are reached
  • Interact with third-party stakeholders, government agencies and regulatory authorities to represent Syngenta’s environmental interests and support compliance-related activities
  • Produce high quality work with limited supervision and use effective decision-making to quickly find common ground and resolve issues.
  • Provide technical expertise to the processing facilities to facilitate delivery of defined improvement plans and to support problem solving and capability development.
  • Support environmental remediation projects to deliver agreed objectives in accordance with the Environmental Provisions process
  • Collaborate with internal and external legal counsel to manage environmental liability issues in accordance with regulations and Syngenta business objectives
