We are currently seeking a Data Stewardship Analyst- Seeds R&D for the global Vegetables & Flowers Seeds Development teams in Durham North Carolina, Enkhuizen Netherlands or other major Syngenta location may be considered.   

Job Description

Role Purpose

The R&D Data Stewardship Analyst who should possess,  

  • minimum of MS in Plant Breeding, Data Science, or related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in seeds industry R&D setting

will play an instrumental role on driving excellence in identity management across global Vegetables & Flowers Seeds Development teams to:

  • Elevate accuracy and quality of germplasm identity data in enterprise IT systems
  • Lead the enablement of trait and germplasm identity attributes in alignment with business objectives
  • Contribute to the development and drive the deployment of IT tools and capabilities in relation to germplasm and trait identity and material management

Accountabilities

  • Develop deep expertise in Syngenta’s identity domain model and provide technical guidance to improve the integrity of germplasm relationships for relevant crops
  • Drive best practices for germplasm and trait identity data management to improve quality and completeness
  • Lead the harmonization of ways-of-working in germplasm identity data management across crops
  • Put emphasis on continuous improvement of identity data management through establishment of processes, guidelines and KPIs in collaboration with leaders and SMEs
  • Organize trainings to frequently engage and update users in Germplasm Development, Biological Operations, Applied Data Science, Trait Development teams and other stakeholders
  • Provide direction to functional stakeholders to continuously maintain data stewardship through data completeness, accuracy and integrity
  • Serve in cross-functional teams to actively contribute towards development of germpasm and trait identity management IT tools and functionalities in alignment with DSET
  • Drive the enablement and transition to new IT tools and functionalities proactively while simplifying ways of working 
  • Deliver data queries, technical summaries, reports and analyses in an effective and timely manner to stakeholders and cross-functional collaborators
  • Lead data stewardship and data standardization initiatives beyond germplasm and trait identity as feasible to advance organizational objectives
  • Keep up to date with internal and external data science toolbox and methodologies

Qualifications

Knowledge, Experience & Capabilities

Critical Knowledge

  • MS in Plant Breeding, Data Science, or related field
  • Minimum of 3-5 years experience in seeds industry R&D setting
  • Deep understanding of commercial breeding pipelines, germplasm relationships, seed and trialing operations, and overall product development process

Critical Experience

  • Experience in IT systems/tools relevant for germplasm management, breeding and trailing operations
  • Experience in data management and ability to query large, complex datasets
  • Advanced data fluency, such as experience with SQL and command of open-source programming languages

  • Ability to drive strong collaborations and work effectively across cultures with stakeholders across the globe
  • Ability to lead data initiatives, drive change in process and mindset, and achieve outstanding outcomes

Travel within region and internationally up to 10%
