Job Description

Purpose

  • Provides the formulation engineering technical capability in both existing and novel manufacturing technologies to maximize quality, capacity, and efficiency outcomes during scale-up, and after launch, of new formulated products to commercial manufacture.
  • Generates the process definition in CP capital projects, including process plant design and equipment evaluation and specification. 
  • Progress projects to increase manufacturing capacity, improve quality and/or reduce manufacturing costs at CP sites and/or the bulk supply chain.
  • Provides advice for the creation and implementation of development programs and procedures within the formulation engineering processing area.

Accountability 

  • Support all Safety and Compliance requirements. Must be fully knowledgeable of, and compliant with all Syngenta HSE policies and department standard operating procedures (SOPs). Must lead by example, to drive a strong safety culture of individual accountability.
  • Delivers the scale-up of Agro-chemical or related formulation processes from lab to full-scale manufacturing anticipating challenges and ensuring process safety, health and environmental subjects are fully incorporated during implementation. 
  • Support technology transfer teams for inter-regional transfer or re-siting of products and is the technical lead in product establishment teams, and a member of the technical start-up team for new processes and equipment at Syngenta manufacturing sites or tollers or third parties. 
  • Designs pilot plant trials and full-scale manufacturing trials - writes operating procedures, trains operating team, provides technical supervision, documents the outcomes, and identifies next steps and shares best practices.
  • Applies formulation engineering processing knowledge to identify solutions that improve capacity, quality, and cost efficiency at manufacturing sites and/or in the bulk supply chain and is a member of the project teams that implement these solutions.
  • Recognized as technical resource for other engineers globally.
  • Progresses projects to seek out and introduce innovative manufacturing technologies for implementation in the pilot plant, production sites or supply chain.
  • Progress evaluation and trials novel processing technologies and techniques and works with site manufacturing teams to introduce into full-scale manufacture in Crop Protection (CP).
  • Contribute to the development of technology improvement plans over a 5Yr horizon.
  • Help lead in the overall success of departmental operations i.e., safety, efficiency and productivity initiatives. May take a lead role in department teams or initiatives.
  • Supports related teams for root cause analysis for product quality complaints and process deviations.

  • Should have basic understanding of PLC, SCADA, DCS systems.

Qualifications

Education / Experience /Qualifications

  • B.E./B.Tech Engineering degree from a reputed Indian Institute/University.
  • Minimum of 8 years of proven experience (adjusted based on further degree) technical position in formulation processing development or formulation manufacturing, preferably in Agro-chemicals or Pharmaceutical industry.  
  • Strong continuous improvement, process risk assessment and HSE excellence mindset.
  • Experience working in cross-functional organizations, transiting in a dynamic and uncertain environment ensuring effective and focused project delivery (on time and in budget).
  • Proven ability to prioritize activities and manage multiple requests from different stakeholders.                                                                           
  • Understanding of the end-to-end processes for product development, formulation processing scale-up and lifecycle management. 

Travelling flexibility

  • Person should be ready to travel for couple of weeks at one stretch (as per project demand) within India and out of India.

Approximate Time Allocation

  • Minimum of 50% pilot plant work.
  • And a considerable travel to Manufacturing sites within India and if required out of India.
