Job Description

Role Purpose

  • To deliver tangible regional & global business benefit through the generation of reliable scientific data and process improvement suggestions in multiple areas of formulation development, production and supply.
  • To contribute to the operations of the local Formulation Development function.

Accountabilities

  • Support all Safety and Compliance requirements. Must be fully knowledgeable of, and compliant with all Syngenta safety policies, regulations, and department standard operating procedures. Must contribute to a strong safety culture of individual accountability.
  • Provides support to development, production, and supply activities through the execution of work programs defined by formulation chemists or line manager.
  • Independently prepares formulation samples with a broad understanding of formulation types, techniques, and components.
  • Independently analyzes formulation samples with a broad command of standard and advanced test methods/instrumentation. Ideates new or adapted test methods when warranted.  Executes follow-up studies independently as deemed necessary. 
  • Independently prioritizes day-to-day work and proactively communicates questions or issues when warranted.
  • Recognized as a departmental expert in one or more instrumentation areas and is a go-to resource for the training of new department personnel. Able to adapt procedures to needs and define new procedures.  May lead special projects related to equipment / instrument.
  • Assists chemists by independently and competently executing instrumentation-based SOPs.  Proactively develops and implements new SOPs for refined formulation testing when warranted.
  • Good familiarity and awareness of established SQAs related to equipment and instrumentation.  Performs instrumentation-based SOPs independently.
  • Maintains oversight of operability of instrumentation within their delegated areas of responsibility. Conducts or coordinates necessary calibration and maintenance of lab instrumentation. May take a lead role in departmental instrumentation management.
  • Coordinates procurement, installation, and setup of instrumentation under guidance of laboratory manager.
  • Reliably and consistently maintains well-documented records and administrative procedures in appropriate repositories. Communicates work progress concisely and efficiently in oral, written, and presentation-based formats.
  • Proactively leads group and departmental operating efficiency and productivity initiatives.  Consistently drives improvements across the department.  May demonstrate strong command and use of Continuous Improvement concepts and tools.
  • Maintains accurate laboratory chemical inventory with a forward outlook of both group and departmental needs.  Proactively identifies and leads inventory improvement projects.
  • Proactively leads group efforts and assists in improvements in departmental operating efficiency and productivity e.g. safety, housekeeping, efficiency and productivity initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Chemistry Degree (min. 2 yrs' experience) or relevant science Diploma (min. 4 yrs’ experience)
  • Fresh Degree Holders with relevant discipline will be considered too
  • Able to successfully apply scientific principles and technical experience to business challenges relevant to Syngenta. 
  • Strong laboratory skills
  • Able to work effectively in cross-functional teams, and across multiple functions.
  • Actively engages in project team discussions.
  • Adaptable to changes in project deliverables and embraces new ways of working. Contribute to the solution.
  • Supports other chemists by sharing knowledge and new ideas. Is open to suggestions/feedback from others.
  • Supports initiatives to address department needs, and highlights roadblocks to completing projects in a timely manner.
