• Appreciate and implement HSE standards as integral part of the job for both self and team.  Manage activities in compliance with site, company and regulatory requirements while driving the highest standards of laboratory practice and professionalism
• Work closely with colleagues at Syngenta’s Jealott’s Hill site in the UK with a view to develop new capabilities in particle science and transferring them to Process Technology, Münchwilen
• Apply a combination of theoretical and applied knowledge to identify and progress projects within team, in order to guide and lead delivery of improvements to technological and manufacturing capability, cost and HSE performance. Provide high quality practical advice and judgements by applying scientific method, theoretical knowledge and broad experience of physical science
• Monitor external scientific and technology advances in areas of responsibility and identify and progress appropriate responses including collaborations with academics as appropriate. Use to address both current project challenges and raise scientific capability of the department and Syngenta
• Ensure maximum impact of scientific understanding through excellent and timely communication
• Develop, train, motivate and coach the team to improve their performance and achieve higher professional standards. Assess performance.
• Ensure all work and information is stored in an electronic format, and that all work and its’ conclusions are properly reported. Seek patent cover where appropriate in order to record and protect the IP which arises from the efforts of the team

• Educated to PhD standard in an area of physical chemistry or process/chemical  engineering. Knowledge of physical chemistry principles particularly crystallisation sciences, crystallography or particle processing.
• Experience in physical sciences and their application to organic chemistry systems (reactions and physical processes), process development, scale-up, manufacturing support and product development, either in an industrial or academic environment.
• Ideally experience in a agro-chemical industry. 
• Knowledge of HSE systems and QA procedures, application and responsibility for compliance.
• Proven ability to carry out successfully the most difficult practical technical challenges in a timely manner
• Comprehensive practical experience and knowledge of laboratory/analytical particle science/ solid-state characterization work to enable realistic work targets to be set.
• Some knowledge of molecular modelling or process modelling would be an asset. 
• Fluency in English and advantage of German skills
