Senior Scientific Specialist (m/f/d) Insecticide Resistance

We are looking for a motivated and experienced scientist to contribute to our local and global insecticide resistance projects. This exciting role offers the opportunity to collaborate across different Syngenta R&D functions, champion innovation of insecticide resistance monitoring/characterization, and to contribute to the life cycle and development of insecticides. Based at Syngenta's Research Centre in Stein, Switzerland, you will join a highly dynamic, multicultural, and inclusive team, which has its core activities around insecticide resistance research.

Your responsibilities:

  • As a Senior Scientific Specialist you will support and develop the science and technology relevant to the insecticide resistance field.
  • You will participate in cross-disciplinary projects with colleagues from all over the world, which includes data generation, analysis, interpretation, and reporting.
  • You will contribute to the publication of research projects conducted internally or with external collaborators.
  • It is a pleasure for you to stay up-to date with technology in high-throughput phenotyping/genotyping and lead implementation into insecticide resistance research and monitoring programs improving capability and efficiency of related projects.
  • We expect you to use your creative problem-solving skills to innovate and troubleshoot challenges around characterization/monitoring of insecticide resistance and to build a network with your key contacts in pursuit of overall goals and objectives.
  • With your strong theoretical and practical expertise in insecticide resistance, you will contribute to the development of other team members.
  • You ensure integrity and compliance in all activities. You secure effective stakeholder engagement, sponsorship, intervention and approval.

Qualifications

What are we looking for:

  • PhD Degree in Entomology, Biology, Agricultural Sciences or related disciplines.
  • Some years of research experience in applied entomology with a strong foundation in insecticide resistance including insect rearing, insecticide bioassays, and molecular biology/biochemistry assays.
  • Project management experience is desirable.
  • Flexibility to work in the lab and in the office.
  • Leadership and strong communication skills with scientific and non-scientific audiences.
  • Experience working in multicultural environments.
  • Strong foundation in MS Office, statistical tools (e.g. R, SAS, SPSS, GP Prism), and Smartsheet.
  • Experience with bioinformatics software platforms for molecular biology and sequence analysis is an advantage.
  • Fluency in English is essential.
