Job Description

We are currently seeking a Mechanical Designer to partner with our mechanical engineering team to design and develop practical designs from high level concepts. Specific areas of responsibility will include but not be limited to the following:

  • Develop practical designs from high level concepts with generalized input from engineers
  • Utilize strong modeling and drafting skills, apply accepted drafting standards, demonstrate competence in geometric dimensioning and tolerancing
  • Demonstrate excellence in the design and detailing of heavy machinery parts, mechanical assemblies, weldments, and industrial structures.  The following technical skills are necessary:
    • Selection of mechanical hardware and structural components such as fasteners, pins, inserts, keys, and raw stock
    • Design and arrangement of mechanical power transmission systems, heavy weldments and formed components
    • Bolted joint design
    • Well versed in the application and limitations of machine shop practices such as but not limited to; cutting, turning, milling, grinding, boring, broaching, as well as field erection and alignment methods
    • Design for manufacturability and maintainability

Qualifications

  • 2-5+ years of progressively responsible work experience in engineering design and/or engineering system layout is required
  • 2+ years of experience using Solidworks required as well as a demonstrated capability using AutoCAD 2D drafting and layout tools
  • Full familiarity with standardized document control processes.  Experience with a PDM system required; Solidworks Enterprise PDM desired.
  • Experience with generation and maintenance of BOMS.
  • Strong drafting skills with high attention to detail and accuracy required.

o    ANSI Y14.5 Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing and AWS welding symbols.

o    Detailed material callouts

o    Use of ASME Y14.1 and/or Mil-Std-100 engineering drawing practices

  • Field and manufacturing experience is a plus.
  • Associates or equivalent degree in Engineering and/or CAD is a plus.
  • Knowledge of the use and selection of various optical, proximity, thru-beam, and other types of sensors is a plus
