Job Description
We are looking for Voice Engineer to join our Connect division in Sydney/Melbourne. The Voice Engineer plays a crucial role in supporting and ensuring the delivery of functionality for Symbio's Voice Networks. This position involves configuring and expanding voice capabilities, exploring new technologies, and engaging in hands-on learning to build practical skills and expertise in core areas.
Reporting to Acting Engineering Manager - Enterprise, this role collaborates closely with the Connect Infrastructure Engineering Team and other key stakeholders to support relevant platforms.
What you'll do as a Voice Engineer:
- Operate and deliver all voice network services, ensuring high functionality and quality
- Design and maintain systems for high availability and reliability
- Manage upgrades and new implementations with minimal business impact
- Develop voice network assets, support network expansion, and plan for future capacity needs
- Address escalated issues, document work, and contribute to team knowledge sharing
As Symbio offers after hours support for our high-end customer base. This role will require after-hour escalations, on a rotating roster.
Qualifications
What you'll need to succeed:
- Knowledge of VoIP technologies, including SBCs, protocols, and codecs, in a telco
- Min 5 + years’ technical experience in a Telco/ISP/MSP/Large enterprise
- VoIP technologies including Session Border Controllers (SBC), VoIP principles, protocols, codecs and transcoding
- Sound understanding of networking architecture and internet protocols
- Experience in troubleshooting voice and IP networks
- Good scripting skills (Python, Shell and / or Perl)
- Having a logical approach in solving complex technical issues
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Team player – good interpersonal skills and self-starting
- Ability to think outside of the box and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills
- Linux System Administration (especially automation tools e.g. Ansible) desirable
