We are looking for a Lead Engineer to join our UCaaS team in Melbourne.  You will build and lead a brand new team of Software and Quality Engineers focused around the UCaaS business within Symbio. As well as leading a team you will be hands-on, developing new features for our UCaaS customers, who are typically our large enterprise and government customers. As a leader, your role also encompasses improving engineering practices, coaching and uplifting our agile processes. We are looking for a technical leader who is comfortable with ambiguity and can help define a target state and roadmap for a new business unit within Symbio.

What you'll do as a Lead Engineer:

• As this is a new team, you will first build out your very own team of software engineers (4-5 people)
• Provide technical leadership to the entire team for the platforms that you own
• Work closely with product management to scope and solution new products
• Develop of stable, secure and well architected code in a range of languages (Javascript, Java, Go)
• Will work on top of AWS, Azure and on-prem infrastructure
• Drive technical decisions and direction within your team and platforms
• Continually improve engineering practices within the team

What you'll need to succeed: 

• Strong engineering experience in a range of languages (Javascript, Java or Go are advantageous)
• Ability to build and lead local and remote engineering teams
• Experience with front-end web applications and BFF architecture
• Exposure to vendor application integrations
• Experience refining priorities for clarity to your team and stakeholders
• A sense of ownership of technical projects and improvement of engineering practices
• You are a person who continually self learns, are curious and tenacious, as well as a great team player
• Bonus points for experience in Telecommunications and AWS or Azure
