Job Description

Our Technology Leader:

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Technology Leader to help Swipii thrive - with a world-class product and a world class team. We are proud that we are technology-based company, and our journey requires that we remain at the forefront of capability and continually innovating.

As our Technology Leader you will play a key role in guiding our success. You will cover the entirety of our product technology – from mobile apps to backend databases. You may not be a deep specialist across the entire stack (or even our current stack) but you will leverage your understanding of distributed systems to create pragmatic architectures to support our predicted levels of growth, as we scale quickly.

Working with your leadership peers and your team, you will have the autonomy to shape the direction of the product as it grows and bring forward your plans for our technology. You will facilitate the whole product cycle in short iterations. Our team is very proud of being able to identify some complex issues before shipping them that same day. You will build on this capability and help us ensure that we are continually and pragmatically delivering high customer value while managing the complexity of our system.

Being part of the leadership team, you will be expected to participate and enable the company's vision, mission, collaborating on the creation of our monthly and quarterly objectives, as well as shaping the roadmap to achieve them. You will relish both the level of autonomy and the level of accountability required to maximise the alignment of our product delivery team.

You will be able to guide and influence a high-performing team, supporting individual team members in their own development and as we deliver great product as a team. You will actively mentor and guide, encouraging and facilitating input from all into your approaches. You will identify where the team needs additional support and look to solutions that resolve them, including our plans for team growth.


About You:

To succeed in Swipii it is essential that you are customer obsessed and product focused. You will also be data-informed in your decision making, leveraging facts to validate your assumptions, but not being afraid to go with your instinct when necessary.

You will likely be an experienced Senior or Principal Engineer or a hands-on Engineering Manager – that doesn’t matter to us so much. You will be an experienced technologist, with a demonstrable experience of designing, building and operating distributed systems. Our current stack is built around .Net technology stack.[1] You may have experience in this, you may not. You will have a willingness and capability to work with it. More importantly you’ll be able to pragmatically guide and steer its evolution as our product grows. You will be as happy being in the trenches supporting the team in shipping our next features as you are taking a pragmatic macro view to articulate the long term direction. You will understand when to experiment in depth to validate a solution, testing your own assumptions on the right approaches.

You will have experience to leading a high growth engineering team forward. Ideally you will also have the experience as a People Manager. You will understand how to motivate, guide and manage the team to help them reach their own potential.  

Particularly as our Technology Leader you should have:

·       several years experience leading and scaling distributed systems as part of a multi-market product.

·       a customer obsessed approach and look to solve their needs with scalable software.

·       good level of understanding and use of agile principles and the value. You will blend what works over choosing a framework.

·       curiosity, a constant hunger to learn and push the product's quality boundaries.

·       passion, drive and belief in our vision and mission - you will be an owner at Swipii and our product

·       a metric driven approach to decision making, prioritisation and continuous deployment.

·       evidence of being self-motivated and driven – you find satisfaction in a job well done and want to solve hard problems.

·       Demonstrable alignment to our core values and a willingness to work and fully participate in a collaborative team.

·       Experience of people management, with examples of your influence in supporting your team to grow.

·       Nice -ot have – an understanding of multi-sided marketplaces and the key dynamics required to support that.
