Job Description

The Senior Designer is responsible for designing and creating apparel that is leading in design, innovation, function, and quality. This position will create apparel designs that reflect Sundance’s design philosophy and standards as the leader in the fashion industry.

 

Essential Functions

  • Responsible for following through from design to inception, handing off  final detailed design to the sourcing team and insuring designs are complete and on time
  • Full ownership of the performance apparel design process while working in conjunction with the Design Director to fill and expand upon the ideas required to complete the line plan.
  • Research markets, trends, raw material, and fabrics in order to generate original ideas and innovation.
  • Work within creative standards set by the management.
  • Participate in “inspiration” shopping, and store visits.
  • Adhere to all apparel and development timelines by meeting all due dates with 100% complete design tech packs.
  • Collaborate with the Merchandising team to discuss line plans.
  • Clearly present concepts and designs to supervisor and/or design team as a whole. 
  • Train, manage and motivate the Assistant Designer.
  • Work with the Sourcing Product Development team in handing off design aesthetic intentions.
  • Understand current business and consumer best sellers to develop appropriate style, design and brand evolution.
  • Identify and present a clear point of view on key silhouettes, fabrics, prints, pattern, embroidery, and details appropriate for the Sundance brand.
  • Participate in fitting sessions.
  • Responsible for all approval for sampling to bulk.
  • Communicate with vendors in partnership with product development.
  • Manage print and pattern identification through bulk approval.

Qualifications

  • College Degree – BS/BA in Apparel/Fashion Design
  • 7+ years of design related experience within apparel
  • Experience in denim
  • Strong artistic background as well as business acumen
  • Cad proficiency – Photoshop and Illustrator
  • Hands on design experience – flat and illustrator sketching
  • Passion to design compelling, brand appropriate styles.
  • Innovate and develop new and emerging concepts.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced and fluid environment.
  • Detail Oriented.
  • Ability to take and to give constructive criticism in order to improve designs.
  • Ability to effectively take design direction, utilizing their creativity and talent to design items appropriate for the Sundance Brand.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to work in a cross-functional team environment.
  • Exceptional presentation skills, both visual and oral.
  • Strong understanding of upscale fabrics.
  • Strong organizational skills
