Sun Community Health (“SCH”) is a non-profit, non-political and non-sectarian organization. It is a local non-governmental organization in Myanmar and is established in particular to advance socially beneficial purposes in Myanmar by promoting and providing information, services and products related to the prevention, promotion, curation and rehabilitation of the major health services including but not limited to HIV/AIDS, malaria, tuberculosis, maternal and child health, reproductive health and non-communicable diseases with the aim of furthering good health, prosperity and the relief of poverty, distress and sickness. This also includes state-of-art training programs, quality assurance programs, and a robust supply chain and logistics system and health financing mechanisms. The Organization may also provide non-health related ancillary services that ensure and improve the well-being of its clientele.

The contract type is Consultant Agreement and the duration is  Up to December and extendable. The required position is 1 and the assigned areas are Shan North based in Lashio.

OVERVIEW:

Sun Community Health (SCH) is supporting the National Tuberculosis Program (NTP) to strengthen active tuberculosis case finding (ACF) through mobile team interventions. The Lab Technician will provide quality laboratory support for NTP TB activities by performing diagnostic testing, ensuring accurate laboratory results, maintaining quality standards, and supporting effective TB laboratory operations in accordance with NTP guidelines and laboratory procedures.

Job Description

SCOPE OF WORK:

The duties and responsibilities of Lab Technician include;

TB Laboratory Testing and Diagnostic Services

· Perform laboratory investigations related to TB diagnosis according to NTP guidelines and standard procedures. · Conduct sputum smear microscopy, Ziehl-Neelsen staining, fluorescence microscopy, Gene Xpert and other assigned laboratory tests as required.

· Support specimen collection, processing, storage, and transportation procedures.

· Ensure accurate recording and reporting of laboratory test results

Laboratory Quality Assurance

· Follow laboratory quality assurance procedures, biosafety standards, and infection prevention and control measures.

· Ensure accuracy, reliability, and completeness of laboratory results.

· Participate in quality control activities and proficiency testing as required.

· Maintain proper documentation of laboratory procedures and results.

Laboratory Operations and Equipment Management

· Ensure proper operation, cleaning, and maintenance of laboratory equipment.

· Monitor availability and proper use of laboratory supplies, reagents, and consumables.

· Report any equipment issues, stock shortages, or operational challenges to the supervisor.

Data Management and Reporting

· Coordinate with NTP, health facilities, laboratory teams to ensure smooth implementation of TB laboratory activities.

· Participate in laboratory meetings, trainings, supervision visits, and review workshops.

· Provide technical support related to laboratory procedures and TB diagnostic services. Coordination and Technical Support

· Work closely with the Team Leader, Data Assistant, and other mobile team members to ensure effective implementation of ACF activities.

· Coordinate with NTP, township health authorities, and local stakeholders during mobile screening activities.

 · Provide technical input related to radiography services during planning and review meetings.

 

Other Responsibilities

· Maintain confidentiality of patient information and program data at all times.

· Comply with SCH policies, NTP guidelines, and donor requirements.

· Perform any other duties assigned by NTP management or SCH that are relevant to the position.

 

Term of Agreement:

The Contractor will receive the basic daily service payment upon submission of a complete Daily Work Report to the respective Supervisor and payment will be made within 30 days after SCH receives and accepts the report. In addition, the Contractor may be eligible for a performance-based payment, which will be determined based on the verification of achievements against the Monthly or Quarterly Performance Indicator Report and the appraisal and approval of the respective Supervisor.

 

Expected Deliverables

The Lab Technician is expected to:

· Accurate and timely TB laboratory testing services provided.

· Complete and updated laboratory records and reports.

· Compliance with laboratory quality assurance and biosafety requirements.

· Proper management of laboratory equipment, supplies, and consumables.

· Effective support to NTP TB diagnostic and laboratory activities.

 

Qualifications

Qualifications:

· Bachelor of Medical Laboratory Technology or equivalent professional qualification.

· Minimum five years of experience in medical laboratory services.

· Experience in tuberculosis laboratory services is highly desirable.

· Previous experience with WHO-supported TB projects or NTP laboratory activities is an advantage.

· Experience supporting mobile TB Active Case Finding activities is highly desirable.

 

Required Competencies

· Strong organizational and time management skills.

· Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

· Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).

· Good document management and filing skills.

· Strong knowledge of TB laboratory procedures, including sputum smear microscopy and AFB testing.

· Knowledge of laboratory quality assurance systems and biosafety standards.

· Ability to maintain accurate laboratory documentation and reports.

· Ability to maintain confidentiality and professionalism.

· Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

· Strong attention to detail and ability to prioritize multiple tasks.

 

Working Relationships

The Lab Technician will work closely with:

· National Tuberculosis Program

· NTP office Staff

· Ministry of Health officials and other stakeholders, as required

· SCH Program Delivery Division Team

· SCH’s Finance, and Human Resources teams

 

Reporting Line

The Lab Technician will be administratively managed by Sun Community Health (SCH) and will receive day-to-day technical supervision from the Mobile Team Leader, NTP focal person.
