Job Description
Role Summary: The Controller will plan and direct the accounting operations of the company.
Essential Job Functions:
- Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures; implements a system of controls over accounting transactions to minimize risk.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles.
- Recommends benchmarks that will be used to measure the company's performance.
- Manage month-end and year-end close processes to meet established deadlines
- Review monthly reports in detail, researching items as needed, to ensure all reports are correct and unusual items are adequately explained
- Works with external auditors and provides needed information for the annual audit.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Work closely with Service Center Leaders to answer any questions that relate to Accounts Payable, Sales and Use Tax, and Financial Reports
- Work closely with IT, Credit/Cash Applications, and GL Group to ensure systems feeding the general ledger are maintained and result in the recording of accurate financial information.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting
- 10+ years private accounting experience, 1-2 years public accounting experience, or a combination with at least 5 years of management preferred
- Previous experience leading monthly close cycle in SAP
- Knowledge of accounting principles and concepts
- Experience with financial statement preparation, general ledger functions, balance sheet reconciliations, and month-end close processes
- Proactive and effective communicator ensuring impacted users are aware of non-standard accounting entries before posting
- Proven ability to learn and use different accounting systems and report writing software
- Strong ability to manage different projects and priorities simultaneously and adapt quickly as priorities change
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills including working knowledge of formulas, pivot tables, and data formatting
Qualifications
Beneficial Skills and Experience:
- CPA or master’s in business administration a plus
- Experience implementing automation solutions to improve A/P process (RPA, AI, EDI, etc.)
- Experience streamlining payment processing activities to improve efficiency (credit cards, virtual cards, travel cards, ACH, etc.)
Physical Challenges:
- Consistent sitting for many hours at one time. Majority of day (85%+) is spent sitting at desk.
- Must be able to lift 20 pounds on a regular and consistent basis.
- Regular and consistent use of keyboard.
- Ability to climb stairs on occasion.
- Majority of job is located inside office, during regular office hours of operation.
