Job Description

We are looking for a Design Manager  - Care Refurbishments to join our in-house Design team based in Wellington. This is a 12-month fixed-term position covering maternity leave. The ideal start date for this position is mid to late August.

Reporting to the Programme Manager Care Refurbishments you will be leading the design and consultants on allocated Care Centre refurbishment projects. Our projects are based all over the country in existing Summerset Villages, and projects include both commercial and residential buildings that are designed in-house. You will be an experienced team leader that can mentor and motivate the design team members to excel, being able to plan and manage your own and your teams work to make sure your project is set up to succeed.

Working in Summerset's Design team brings with it several unique aspects. Our design and build model provide exposure to the buildability and commercial aspects of the construction process through regular contact with experts within the same team. Being part of a wider business also means stakeholders across different parts of Summerset, such as Marketing, Sales and Operations who are all involved in feedback to the Design team. Our BIM process and innovation are industry leading.

What will your responsibilities be?

  • You will be responsible for Care Centre refurbishment design projects
  • Responsible for individual design projects and their programme management from concept through to handover post construction
  • Ensuring that each build meets the high standards of Summerset and creates a thriving community for our residents
  • Ensure Summerset design standards are met during Design and construction and provide continual improvement feedback

  • Ideally someone with experience in a similar business or a large developer
  • An affinity to understand Summerset Values and the Summerset Way to improve the lives of older people
  • MS Project desirable
  • Strong Design Management and process knowledge
  • Financial and risk management through design
