Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The primary responsibility of the Policy and Advocacy Coordinator is to analyze and provide support to the Executives, Councilors, and staff on policy development, implementation and advocacy training, as well as assist the Governance Manager with various projects.

 RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Collaborate with the Governance Manager to review existing and expiring policies and plans, and provide recommendations;
  2. Co-chair the Governance Reform Committee;
  3. Research implementation processes for SSMU policies and plans in accordance to SSMU’s 5-Year Plan;
  4. Advise on policies, policy development, governance procedures, and best-practices;
  5. Conduct and analyze comparative reviews of governance structures and documents across student associations both at McGill University and in various peer institutions, in accordance to provincial and federal legislation; and
  6. Assist the Governance Manager on various projects and any other tasks as needed.

Qualifications

  1. Strong communication and written skills both in English and French;
  2. Knowledge of student governance and student politics;
  3. Knowledge of the SSMU and McGill University;
  4. Understanding of Microsoft office suites (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and G-Suite;
  5. Knowledge of Quebec Law and legislative regulations, an asset;
  6. Diligence and impartiality in execution of duties;
  7. Ability to work effectively under pressure;
  8. Highly organized and strong attention to detail;
  9. Able to work independently and in a team environment.

Additional Information

  • Casual part-time position: approximately 10 hours work per week
  • Salary: $21.98/hr
