Job Description

The IT Compliance Officer works alongside the Systems Administrator, General Manager, & Governance Manager to ensure correct adherence to compliance standards for all IT projects at the SSMU. The incumbent keeps archives of all activities conducted on SSMU administered systems. As IT Compliance Officer, they conduct assessments of IT risks and controls, ensuring that all systems are resilient to common IT threats. They will also be responsible for creating and maintaining a crisis response plan taking into account varying forms of crisis including but not limited to malicious use of company systems, information security breaches, and theft of company IT assets. They will develop and implement compliance training and In addition to this they support the Systems Administrator in day to day tasks.

RESPONSIBILITIES: 

  1. Provide technical support services all SSMU users and provide after business hours support, as required; 
  2. Provide prompt email and in person support to SSMU users regarding software compliance , operating systems issues; 
  3. Provide annual and as needed training to SSMU users and affiliated groups; 
  4. Review and correct website and server issues as needed; 
  5.  Maintain in working and optimal condition, all SSMU hardware; 
  6. Upgrade operating systems and software programs on a regular basis; 
  7. Create and regularly update a database of SSMU hardware and software licenses
  8. Install all necessary programs at the request of the General Manager;
  9. Create and follow a multi-year plan and budget for the replacement and purchase of necessary equipment and software tools; 
  10. Maintain in working and optimal order all SSMU servers; 
  11. Protect the SSMU network(s) from security vulnerabilities and unauthorized access;  
  12.  Enforce SSMU and relevant McGill network policies; 
  13.  Set-up new users with email and access privileges and conversely, suspend or terminate email and access privileges at the request of the General Manager; 
  14.  Provide logs, IT audits, access credentials and user data at the request of the General Manager;
  15.  Complete all other tasks as assigned by the General Manager. 

SUPERVISION RECEIVED: 

The Systems Administrator receives general direction from the General Manager and in their absence, the Building Director. Considerable freedom is granted in day-to-day operations. 

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

1. High pressure work environment from both an operational and political perspective. 

2. Daily hours of work and full work week are defined in the Staff Employee Manual. Some overtime hours may be required at the request of the General Manager.

 

Qualifications

1. Formal education: University degree in computer sciences or engineering. A trade certificate could also be equivalent; 

2. Minimum of 5 to 10 years experience in the IT industry; 

3. Integrity, very good planning skills, interpersonal skills, analytical ability; 

4. Firm legal literacy and knowledge of compliance standards;

5. Strong communication skills both in English and French.
