Job Description

The Student Rights Researcher and Advocacy Commissioner (SRRAC) will support student advocacy initiatives by coordinating research and campaign development in the University Affairs portfolio, specifically around assessment, accommodation, and academic rights. They will be tasked with researching comparative academic accommodations and assessment policies across institutions of higher learning. They will also coordinate the bi-annual SSMU Know Your Rights campaign.  

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Lead research on best practices in University assessment and accommodations and produce a detailed report; 
  2. Assist with in-person and online student consultation on assessment and accommodation at McGill University 
  3. Oversee the bi-annual Know Your Rights campaign. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to: online advertisement, updating website with new content, tabling, and in class announcements;   
  4. Maintain resources for use by student representatives and students-at-large, including via the Student Rights and University Affairs websites and oversee the dissemination of these resources;
  5. Oversee contract research projects under the University Affairs portfolio, as required;

Qualifications

  • Strong experience in research, report-writing, campaign organizing and/or policy development;
  • Interest in student advocacy, representation, and awareness-building;
  • Knowledge of both SSMU and McGill’s governance structure;
  • Good organizational and planning skills;  
  • Good communication skills in English; French is an asset.

Additional Information

  • Paid position: $16.59
  • Hours: On average 6 hours per week;
  • Contract: till May 31st, 2024;
