The Student's Society of McGill University (SSMU) is currently hiring. With over 20,000 members, SSMU's role is to represent students and to offer services since 1908.

Job Description

OVERVIEW:

The Union for Gender Empowerment (UGE) is a feminist and trans positive Service of the SSMU that strives to provide services to marginalized peoples in a safe(r) space. This includes an intersectional anti-oppressive mandate that centers the following values:

  • Anti-racism

  • Anti-colonialism

  • Anti-capitalist

  • Anti-ableism

  • Queer positive

  • Harm reduction

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversee and coordinate planning of all UGE events; 

  • Support Education Coordinator in planning staffer training; 

  • Work with outreach coordinator to use events to raise UGE profile on campus;

  • Find organizations to co-host collaborative events; 

  • Ensure all events comply with SSMU regulations and are properly insured; 

  • Manage events budget, deliver events budget reports to finance coordinator; 

  • Publicize UGE events on social media, list-serv, and via direct outreach; 

  • Take on further tasks as agreed by the collective.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Degree or current major in related field (gender studies, post-colonial studies, etc.);

  • English essential, French an asset;

  • Interest in seeking out partner organizations to collaborate with;

  • Highly organized and reliable;

  • Ability to work independently and take initiative;

  • Experience with event planning, both collaborative and unilateral;

  • Able to develop a long-term event planning timeline;

  • Able to manage and keep track of an event budget;

  • Experience with consensus-based decision making an asset;

  • Experience in coordinating volunteers;

  • Integrity, good planning skills, interpersonal skills, high degree of organizational skills.

Additional Information

  • Paid position: $15.34
  • Contract dates: September 1st, 2021 to May 31st 2022
  • Contract: 200 hours total
