Job Description

The Plate Club is SSMU’s free dishware rental service, and aims to promote sustainability on campus through its direct approach towards waste diversion and education. With the exception of this position, the Plate Club is operated entirely by volunteers. The General Coordinator oversees all aspects of the services’ operation and is responsible for ensuring that it operates in a structurally sustainable manner. Specific tasks include responding to all external inquiries such as order requests, scheduling orders and managing inventory, liaising with stakeholders such as the SSMU, managing volunteer affairs and building a sense of community, leading long-term projects, and developing the Plate Club’s outreach and education programs.

Service Coordination

  • Respond to all external inquiries via email and social media.
  • Receive order requests, create reservations, schedule inventory.
  • Update the website as required, ensure social media profiles are up-to-date.
  • Check in at the Plate Club office a minimum of once per week.
  • Liaise with the Student’s Society of McGill University (SSMU) and other stakeholders. 
  • Ensure the overall smooth functioning of the service.

Volunteer Coordination

  • Oversee the staffing of office hours and create the schedule.
  • Oversee volunteer recruitment and training.
  • Organize volunteer recognition events and activities.
  • Work with executives to build a strong community of volunteers

Finance

  • Plan the yearly budget.
  • Maintain accurate and complete financial records of all expenses, ensure proper accounting procedures are followed.
  • Ensure the financial sustainability of the service.

Outreach and Education

  • Work with executives to develop new initiatives related to outreach and education.
  • Maintain relations with other sustainability groups  on campus for referral and collaborative purposes.

Qualifications

 

  1. Plate Club experience is an asset.
  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English; French an asset.
  3. Ability to work independently and manage time effectively.
  4. Experience with staffing and/or volunteer coordination an asset.
  5. General knowledge of sustainability at McGill; institutional policies, departments, stakeholders, etc.
  6. General knowledge of sustainability services/resources outside McGill University, such as municipal, provincial, and private initiatives, as well as those taking place at other post-secondary institutions around the country.
  7. A passion for the environment and supporting the campus community.

  • Hours: 12 hours/week
  • $13.59/hr
