Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

The External Portfolio is one of six portfolios run by student-executives at SSMU. Each portfolio is responsible for different areas, committees, and staff members. The External Portfolio is comprised of Political Campaigns, Indigenous Affairs, Community Affairs, Francophone Affairs, and External Affairs. The Portfolio also includes SSMU’s mobilization and advocacy work around sexual violence at McGill. With a  VP External Affairs’ vacancy, the Executive Team will add new commissioner positions. Each aspect of the External Portfolio has been redistributed to a member of the current Executive.

Additionally, we are creating 2-3 Mentor and Member of the External Portfolio Advisory Board positions in order to support Executives and Commissioners for the remainder of the year. In essence, we are looking for candidates with ample previous experience in projects that the VP External Affairs would have been responsible for, in order to provide guidance and strategic support to Commissioners.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Conduct check-ins with Commissioners as needed in order to give them strategic support on their initiatives;
  2. Help connect Commissioners to resources that can support their projects;
  3. Provide support to the SSMU Executive on questions relating to External Affairs;
  4. To undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Executives.

Qualifications

  1. Extensive experience working on projects related to Political Campaigns, Indigenous Affairs, Francophone Affairs, External Affairs, Community Affairs, Sexual Violence Mobilization and Advocacy;
  2. Prior experience in and strong understanding of SSMU, particularly the External role;
  3. Excellent writing and communication skills;
  4. Teamwork;
  5. Existing network within McGill activist and political spheres.
