Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:

Working closely with the Vice-President (External Affairs), the Campaigns Coordinator will be in charge of providing resources at the SSMU’s disposal to support Political Campaigns on-campus and/or in Quebec.


RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Regular attendance at meetings of major campaigns (as identified in collaboration with the Vice-President (External));

  2. Detailed communication with campaign organizers of the availability of resources at the SSMU’s disposal, including monetary, communications, and room booking resources;

  3. Coordination of the provision of the aforementioned resources;

  4. On a case-by-case basis, offering labour to groups for the completion of tasks when needed, such as tabling and flyering, writing policies, sending e-mails, etc.;

  5. Coordination of the production of campaigns media in collaboration with the Communications Department;

  6. Organization of  events for Political Campaigns, including space planning, soliciting guest speakers, providing honoraria, and acting as a point of communication for inquiring police officers;

  7. Updating of political research for publication on the website and webpages used by the Vice-President (External Affairs) as needed;

  8. Other campaign-related tasks assigned by the Vice-President (External Affairs).

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:

The Campaigns Coordinator receives general direction from the Vice-President (External Affairs) and in his/her absence the General Manager.   

The Campaigns department is granted a high degree of autonomy, and the coordinator is responsible for setting their own hours, coordinating their budget, and communicating with their Supervisor when they require assistance.
 

NOTE ON WORKING CONDITIONS:

  1. The Campaigns Coordinator position involves a high-pressure work environment from both an operational and political perspective. A large number of tasks must be balanced and prioritized in the completion of duties. As such, it should be remembered that the SSMU and its resources are available in case assistance is required.

 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  1. Knowledge or interest in political, social movement and governmental affairs;

  2. Ability to communicate complex information in an accessible format;

  3. Knowledge of political strategizing and best practices in mobilization;

  4. Knowledge of the legal framework surrounding non-violent direct action (NVDA) and other forms of mobilization;

  5. Good long-term planning skills;

  6. Good task-management skills;

  7. Good written and verbal communication skills;

  8. Good interpersonal skills;

  9. Good communication skills both in English and French desirable.

CONFIDENTIALITY:

It is understood and agreed that all matters to the SSMU and those clubs association or groups forming part of the SSMU are to be kept in the strictest of confidence, and nothing regarding the operations, policies and general activities of the SSMU or its constituent groups shall be divulged to any third party without the express consent of the General Manager and/or the Executive Committee of the SSMU.
