Job Description

The Popular Education Events Coordinator will help plan and run the Culture Shock and Social Justice Days while working closely with the QPIRG Outreach Coordinator, the QPIRG Popular Education Committee, and the SSMU Vice-President (External Affairs).

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Ensure coordination of Culture Shock (Fall term) and Social Justice Days (Winter term) Events and arrange for all necessary logistics, promotions, and organizing efforts in collaboration with QPIRG-McGill’s Popular Education committee;
  2. Attend Popular Education committee meetings;
  3. Work with the Vice-President (External Affairs) and the Outreach Coordinator QPIRG to plan a precise budget;
  4. Plan the structure of Culture Shock and Social Justice Days: Arrange for all necessary media, rent or purchase the necessary media and/or equipment, organize the necessary space and present the plan to the Vice-President (External Affairs) and the QPIRG Outreach Coordinator;
  5. Assist with setup and on-site organization of the Events of Culture Shock and Social Justice Days;
  6. Coordinate the film screenings;
  7. Contact and follow up as needed with students and community groups for the workshop;
  8. Be the main contact person for all Culture Shock and Social Justice Days participants;
  9. Coordinate the advertising of Culture Shock and Social Justice Days through all necessary media, including but not limited to social media and posting;
  10. Recruit and coordinate volunteers to ensure the seamless operation of all Culture Shock and Social Justice Days Events; 
  11. Ensure that both Popular Education Events  reflect their anti-racist, and anti-oppression mandates;
  12. Write an exit report, to be delivered to the SSMU Vice-President (External Affairs) and the Outreach Coordinator of QPIRG.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES AND FUNCTIONS:
To undertake other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned by the Vice-President (External Affairs).

SUPERVISION REQUIRED:
The Popular Education Events Coordinator receives general direction from the Vice-President (External
Affairs) and in his/her absence the General Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
High pressure work environment from both an operational and political perspective.

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
● Experience: Minimal experience in coordinating Events is required;
● Integrity, good planning skills, interpersonal skills, high degree of organization skills;
● Good communication skills both in English and French desirable.
