Job Description

Reporting to the Operations Director, the Kitchen staff will be responsible for preparing input ingredients for menu items as well as preparing food for the following day’s service on a daily basis.  In additions, they will maintain high standards of customer services and courtesy, health and safety regulations and all Gerts policies and procedures. They are in charge of providing quality products and service in a clean and safe environment to each and every customer.  

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepare input ingredients as part of food preparation for the following day;
  2. Perform ‘à la minute’ preparation of dishes upon order;
  3. Ensure prepared food is made according to recipes and meet the café quality standards as well as regulated health and food standards;
  4. Ensure that all equipment is functional. If not, report deficiencies to the Events, Food and Beverage Director;
  5. Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of service and storage area, work area and equipment, including arranging tables and chairs;
  6. Clean relevant service, preparation and storage areas using correct chemicals;
  7. Keep service counters clean and fully stocked;
  8. Maintain equipment in accordance with preventive maintenance checklist;
  9. Perform cashier duties as needed when orders are placed directly with kitchen;
  10. Keep track of kitchen inventory and report shortages to the Operations Director;
  11. When appropriate, sign cleaning schedules as necessary.
  12. Must be completed at the end of every day;
  13. Ensure cleaning shift list is followed and completed before punching out;
  14. Receive and put away food orders using proper FIFO rotation;
  15. Respect and follow building and SSMU Internal Regulations.

Qualifications

  • Serve all food from the counter using correct tools and presentation techniques
  • Should be friendly & approachable & have a good customer attitude
  • Should be personable to deal with customer queries & requests

Additional Information

 

  • Paid position: $13.66 per hour;
  • Hours: minimum 10 hours a week;
  • Contract: August 15th, 2018 – mid May, 2019;
