Job Description
The Payroll Manager will oversee Appcast’s payroll activities across the United States, Canada, and internationally, ensuring accurate and timely completion of all payroll processes. This role will supervise a team of payroll specialists, and will be responsible for maintaining compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local payroll laws and regulations.
Job Responsibilities
- Maintain excellent working knowledge of payroll systems and software; regularly review features, workflows and integration options to ensure that we’re maximizing efficiency and leveraging system capabilities based on needs.
- Oversee the execution of payroll processing; review and approve payroll transactions, including salary adjustments, bonuses, commissions, tax obligations and other payments and deductions; maintain data integrity within payroll systems.
- Ensure accurate calculation and compliance of payroll liabilities, such as federal, state/provincial, and local income taxes, social security taxes, unemployment payments, and workers' compensation payments.
- Oversee the maintenance of payroll-related data to ensure accuracy for new hires, promotions, and terminations.
- Ensure timely processing and distribution of year-end reporting and participate in annual audits by providing accurate records to internal and external auditors.
- Drive process flows amongst the team, focusing on process improvement to enhance employee workflows and the employee experience.
- Stay informed about changes in payroll laws and regulations within the US, Canada, and applicable international jurisdictions, ensuring the organization's compliance with federal, state/provincial, and local payroll tax requirements.
- Supervise and lead a team of payroll specialists, providing guidance, training, support and regular performance feedback.
- Foster a team culture that supports personal growth and continuous improvement, including the successful management of performance reviews, providing regular constructive feedback, and setting direction for future career growth.
- Ensure team members provide excellent customer service to employees regarding paycheck questions and tax inquiries.
- Lead the recruitment of new team members and oversee overall resource planning for the team, ensuring efficient scaling and allocation of resources to meet business needs.
- Perform related duties and special projects as assigned.
Qualifications
- Strong background in payroll or other functions of Finance, with a good understanding of common fiscal procedures.
- Strong computer literacy, including proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
- Strong understanding of payroll systems and software, such as ADP Workforce Now.

Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
- 7-10 years’ experience in payroll and/or managing a payroll team
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred.
- Extensive office experience, including multi-state payroll; experience with international payroll is required.
- Certification(s) from The National Association of Certified Payroll Specialists, The American Payroll Association, or a similar professional payroll organization is considered an asset.
- Experience with ADP Workforce Now highly preferred.
Travel Requirements
Regular travel is not required for this position.
Supervisory Responsibilities
This position will manage a team of payroll specialists.
