The job at a glance  

Join our team and you’ll be responsible for working on excellent engineering and managing a team.  As a manager, you will be trusted by your team, work with them individually and as a group to help achieve their goals and commitments, and listen, support, mentor, coach, and help them grow to their full potential. As an engineer, you will communicate technical concepts to a varied audience of stakeholders across the business, and together with product owners, scrum masters and business analysts you will be accountable for the results and delivery of the team, with a focus on innovation.

Working in the Data and BI domain, you will gain valuable experience and progress your career, using newer technologies and defining best practices to deliver a self-service BI model for the wider organisation.

Your responsibilities

  • Line management, coaching, career progression, planning and growth, for one or two engineering teams, Ensuring that the team is staffed appropriately and protecting its health and having Accountability for the successful delivery of the team’s commitments
  • Ensuring that excellent engineering and innovation are part of every delivery iteration and the team’s roadmap and developing the engineering culture of their team and domain, in the context of the organizational engineering strategy (rapid hypothesis testing, learning from failure, automation, SecDevOps culture)
  • Ensuring effective technical knowledge is shared within the team and in collaboration with other teams and Associate Engineering Managers
  • Awareness of barriers to innovation, and planning for their removal (through training, removal of technical debt, or other means)
  • Occasionally, being able to lend hands-on support to the team working on and using the following technologies: Data Warehousing, Data Modelling, Database Design, ETL, AWS Redshift, SQL Server, Power BI, Cloud/DevOps – AWS, Docker, Terraform, Bitbucket, Bamboo, Team City, Octopus CI/CD deploy pipeline, Agile, pair programming, code reviews, Python, C#, Java, Data Lakes, Crawlers, Event Sourcing and Data Mesh
