Company Description
Title: REC Originator
Location: San Francisco or New York
Company Description
Statkraft has been making clean energy possible for over a century. That’s what we offer. 125 years of unrivalled expertise in supplying the world with what it needs most. We envision a world that runs entirely on renewable energy. Because in the fight against climate change, we don’t see renewable energy as part of the solution – we believe it must be the solution. With us, you’ll shape a career that is truly forward-facing with many amazing opportunities and offerings to match.
But there’s more work to be done – that’s why we need you to join us.
Working in Trading & Origination
As an Originator within Environmental Products, you will be responsible for developing Statkraft into a leading market participant across Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and broader environmental markets. This includes matching the needs of renewable generators and environmental attribute suppliers with compliance and voluntary buyers, supporting both regulatory (e.g., RPS) and voluntary decarbonization objectives.
You will play a key role in expanding and scaling Statkraft’s Environmental Products platform, driving deal flow, deepening market relationships, and contributing to the commercialization of innovative products across REC markets. You will also contribute to pricing, structuring, and hedging environmental attribute transactions, leveraging collaboration across Origination, Trading, and Portfolio Management.
Finally, you will lead transactions end-to-end, applying your expertise and collaborative approach to ensure successful structuring, negotiation, and execution.
Job Description
- Support the build-out and growth of Statkraft’s Environmental Products origination business, with a focus on RECs and related instruments
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with key counterparties across corporates, utilities, financial institutions, developers, and intermediaries
- Actively engage with market participants to strengthen Statkraft’s brand and position in REC and environmental markets
- Identify, analyse, negotiate, and execute complex structured transactions in environmental products (including unbundled RECs and emerging products where relevant)
- Develop and maintain financial models to support valuation, risk assessment, and internal decision-making
- Contribute to pricing, structuring, and hedging strategies in coordination with Trading and Portfolio Management teams
- Monitor and interpret regulatory frameworks (e.g., RPS programs), voluntary market developments, and broader industry trends to inform strategy and product innovation
- Translate customer decarbonization needs and market dynamics into scalable environmental product offerings
- Collaborate closely with credit, legal, operations, and trading teams to progress and close transactions efficiently
- Lead deal execution processes end-to-end, coordinating cross-functional inputs to ensure commercially robust and executable outcomes
- Support the development of systems, processes, and tools to enable scaling of the Environmental Products business
Qualifications
- 3–5+ years of experience prospecting, originating transactions for any commodity market with US client-base, preferably in Renewable Energy Certificates (RECs) and/or broader environmental products
- Strong commercial mindset with a high degree of initiative and self-motivation, capable of identifying and executing value-driven opportunities in REC and environmental markets
- Well-connected across environmental and power market participants, including corporates, utilities, developers, brokers, funds, and trading houses
- Strong understanding of US REC markets (compliance and voluntary), including RPS frameworks, registry systems, and evolving market structures, alongside broader power market dynamics
- Experience and familiarity with standard and non-standard REC contracts and environmental commodity agreements, including master trading agreements (e.g., ISDA, EEI, or REC-specific confirmations)
- Combination of entrepreneurial spirit, quantitative capability, attention to detail, and strong communication skills to drive growth, structure transactions, and deliver revenue across Environmental Products.
