Working in Trading & Origination

As part of the Origination Department, the Central European Origination team assumes the role of a market integrator for renewable and flexible assets encompassing the supply of power and green solutions to industrial customers in Europe with the main focus on German speaking area. The Origination team concludes non-standard, structured and often complex transactions in wholesale energy markets and provides green energy solutions to the industry. The responsibilities within the Origination team are divided among Origination, Market Access and Portfolio Management.

The Portfolio Management team structures and prices all contracts and manages the resulting position. The portfolio consists of one of Germany’s largest Market Access (Direktvermarktung) portfolios, including onshore wind, offshore wind, solar and hydro assets as well as flexibility assets, tailor-made short- and long-term Power Purchase Agreements (PPA) and long-term sales contracts to large end customers. The team is also active within other non-standard flexible and structured wholesale products in Germany and is responsible for the sales trading desk with team members located in Düsseldorf.  

Job Description

Your role:
We are looking to fill the position of Quantitative Portfolio Manager in Origination Central Europe (MOC).

You will report directly to the Head of Quantitative Portfolio Management. You will be based in Dusseldorf and your activities will include:

  • Playing a pivotal role in providing first-class quantitative analysis and scaling up our portfolio of Renewables PPAs and structured products
  • Proactively and continually develop and improve modelling methodologies, valuation and pricing tools and our optimization approach, actively contributing to the set-up of a state-of-the art portfolio management infrastructure
  • Developing both quantitative and fundamental views of relevant power markets (including risks related to managing an intermittent renewable portfolio) along the entire curve, liaising closely with team members and analysis functions to share know-how
  • Proactively manage the information flow and implement routines with main stakeholders by engaging in in-depth discussions with portfolio managers, originators, developers and analysts
  • Liaise closely with the different internal stakeholders such as IT, digitalization projects, risk department / middle office or back-office

Qualifications

Your profile:

  • University degree in mathematics, computer or data sciences, economics, engineering or similar
  • Prior professional work experience in energy and/or other commodity markets, preferably previous commercial (front office) experience in the German power market and/or other European markets
  • State-of-the art know-how in modelling and valuation of structured, non-standard contracts in energy and/or financial markets
  • Excellent quantitative and analytical background (probabilities, stochastic calculus, (stochastic) optimization, numerical methods etc.)
  • Strong coding skills, ideally Python
  • Ability to work with automation and CI/CD technologies (e.g. Gitlab) or willingness to learn to do so
  • Reliable team player and stakeholder manager with excellent communication skills in EnglishHigh level of initiative and motivation
  • Flexible, accurate and capable of further developing the business
  • Strong commercial mind-set and high level of initiative and motivation
  • Some willingness to travel
