Portfolio Strategy Intern, Southern European Origination (6 months), Düsseldorf, (m/f)

  • Intern
  • Business Units: MOS - Southern European Origination

Company Description

Who we are:

As Europe's largest producer of renewable energy, we aim to be a leading player in the global energy markets. The energy world is in the midst of a major shift: reducing greenhouse gas emissions worldwide.

Statkraft's Origination activities are about understanding these dynamics and their impact on the pricing of energy and energy-related products, as well as developing meaningful and innovative solutions for our commercial and industrial customers on their journey to decarbonization.

Our Origination business brings renewable energies to the market and to consumers. This is done through balancing services and power purchase agreements with renewable energy producers and hedging or supplies for our industrial and commercial customers (PPAs – Power Purchase Agreements). The latter range from standard electricity contracts to tailored green electricity supplies with guarantees of origin, which provide our customers with proof that the electricity purchased is generated by a specific facility. In order to manage the risks of fluctuating renewable electricity generation, we are also involved in the management of flexible generation plants.

Our origination activities are carried out from a number of offices worldwide, e.g. in the Nordic countries, Central, North West and Southern Europe, as well as the UK, USA, South America and India.

Working in Southern European Origination:

As part of the Origination department, the Southern European Origination team concludes non-standard, structured and often complex transactions in wholesale energy markets in Spain, Portugal, France, and Italy. Thereby, it cooperates closely with Statkraft’s trading desks and the other regional Origination teams to offer pan-European tailored energy solutions. The responsibilities within Southern European Origination are divided into Origination Iberia, Origination France/Italy, Portfolio Management and the newly established unit Quant and Structuring. While the Origination teams focus on originating, structuring, and negotiating value enhancing new transactions, and Portfolio Management prices and manages the entire portfolio exposure in the market across the curve until delivery, Quant and structuring will provide the quantitative development and sophisticated pricing models. All teams closely collaborate on a joint “one team – one PnL” philosophy per region.

Statkraft Southern European Origination has been a first mover on long-term PPAs in Spain and Italy with more than 50 wind and solar PPAs contracted. In addition, the portfolio consists of tailor-made long-term agreements with IPPs/generators and large end customers as well as other non-standard flexible and structured wholesale products. Furthermore, Southern European Origination is running a PPA business in France and holds a sizeable route-to-market renewables portfolios in that market. The business is planning to significantly grow its business in regional and product scope over the next years.

We are looking for an intern to join the Southern European Origination Portfolio Management team for a 6 months internship, starting 1st November 2024.
