Job Description

As the Principal Grid Connections Manager, your core duties will include:

  • Overseeing the entire lifecycle of grid connection contracts, from initial development to final contracting and the ongoing management of agreements.
  • Directly managing a dedicated team of grid connections analysts, developers, and specialists.
  • Assisting the Wind, Solar, Hydro, Greener Grid Parks, and Hydrogen development teams in broader business development tasks, such as stakeholder relationship cultivation, cost and connection modeling, benchmarking, KPI development, and implementing strong governance and internal assurance to deliver reliable services to development teams.
  • Administering the application and modification processes for grid connection agreements, coordinating with internal teams, technical support, legal advisors, NGESO, and Transmission Operators to meet all deadlines and achieve strategic objectives.
  • Managing grid security payments and liabilities, working with procurement, accounting, and external parties to ensure payments are timely, assessed, and contested when necessary.
  • Ensuring compliance with all key grid connection deliverables, payments, and obligations.
  • Establishing and promoting best practices and governance across various functions by providing the necessary processes and systems to back development services activities.
  • Keeping up-to-date with industry developments through event participation, consultation responses, and industry representation.
  • Serving as the central point of contact for all grid connections workflows, ensuring that team members receive adequate training, development opportunities, responsibilities, and support to empower both the team and individual members to meet their goals.
  • Generating effective management information and reports for all internal stakeholders.

Qualifications

  • University degree in a relevant field
  • Held a senior role with extensive knowledge of the renewables industry
  • Skilled in grid connections, especially for major renewable generation projects
  • Familiar with the regulatory regimes and the operational challenges of electricity transmission and distribution systems
  • Well-versed in recent grid connection initiatives, including reforms, queue management, and Holistic Network Design
  • Proficient in managing budgets, stakeholders, and functions with varying priorities and deadlines
  • Adept at developing and overseeing business processes, systems, documentation, and reporting
  • Experienced in using and enhancing analytical tools such as Power BI, Microsoft Office/Project, ArcGIS, and other data analysis software
  • Previous line management experience or a demonstrated passion for leadership and people development
  • Strong team player with excellent communication, influence, and relationship-building skills
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills in English with a high level of attention to detail
  • Proactive problem-solver
  • Confident and personable, eager to work in a dynamic team environment
