Job Description

Stange Law Firm, PC is accepting applications for the position of General Counsel.  Stange Law Firm, PC is a divorce and family law firm with offices in the Midwest in Missouri, Illinois, Kansas and Oklahoma. 

Among other things, the duties shall generally include the following: 

• Will be a licensed attorney with a Juris Doctorate who reports to the Managing Partner and Founding Partners.

• Counsels the Managing Partner, Founding Partners and other Directors with respect to the legal implications of the Firm's major decisions, strategies and transactions.

• Serves as a key adviser to the Managing Partner, Founding Partners and Directors on issues of Firm governance, risk management, Firm growth, policy implementation, internal and external communications relating to sensitive matters, strategic planning and execution and special projects.

• Along with the Managing Partner, supervises the Client Care Director, Client Care Department and lawyers at the firm to ensure maximum client satisfaction.

• With the Managing Partner, monitors and works with lawyers at the firm in responding to grievances, complaints, fee disputes and obtains outside counsel where appropriate.

• Assists the Managing Partner and Founding Partners in communications with other Firm Partners and Directors and the achievement of strategic goals and objectives of the Firm.

• Negotiates or reviews contracts and agreements between the Firm and its Partners or employees or any third parties.

• Along with the Managing Partner, supervises and advises the Human Resource Department, including negotiating severance agreements and helping to draft policies and procedures where requested.

• Ensures compliance with applicable laws and regulations relating to employment relationships, employee benefit programs, intellectual property rights and obligations and professional responsibilities.

• Coordinates with the Managing Partner and supervises all counsel engaged to represent the Firm with respect to the resolution of potential claims against the Firm.

• Coordinates and supervises with the Managing Partner all outside legal counsel engaged to represent the Firm with respect to asserted claims or legal proceedings.

• Serves as an advisor to the Managing Partner and Founding Partners regarding strategic planning, practice management, knowledge management and ancillary businesses.

• Reports claims and potential claims to the Firm’s insurance carriers and ensures coverage.

• Assumes responsibility for special projects assigned from time to time by the Managing Partner or Founding Partners.

• Performs any other reasonable tasks as determined or requested.

Qualifications

  • JD Required
  • Prior experience as General Counsel or Assistant General Counsel in a Law Firm preferred (or equivalent risk-management experience)
