Job Description
We're looking for a detail-oriented and analytical Officer, Reconciliations to join our Capability Reconciliations CIB team in Johannesburg, South Africa. In this Contract role, you will be responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial records through systematic reconciliation processes. The ideal candidate will demonstrate exceptional organizational skills, a commitment to precision, and the ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced financial environment.
- Perform daily, weekly, and monthly reconciliations of bank accounts, general ledger accounts, and subsidiary ledgers to ensure accuracy and completeness
- Identify and investigate discrepancies, variances, and reconciling items with a focus on root cause analysis
- Prepare detailed reconciliation reports and documentation to support financial statements and audit requirements
- Maintain organized reconciliation schedules and supporting documentation in accordance with company policies and accounting standards
- Collaborate with accounting, treasury, and operations teams to resolve outstanding items and facilitate timely month-end and year-end closes
- Input and verify financial data in accounting systems and spreadsheets with meticulous attention to detail
- Monitor aging reports and follow up on unresolved reconciling items to ensure timely resolution
- Support internal and external audit activities by providing reconciliation documentation and explanations
- Assist in the development and improvement of reconciliation processes and procedures to enhance efficiency
- Maintain confidentiality and adhere to all financial controls and compliance requirements
Qualifications
- 2-4 years of professional experience in reconciliation, accounting operations, or a related financial role
- Demonstrated expertise in performing bank reconciliations, general ledger reconciliations, and account analysis
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as pivot tables, VLOOKUP, and data analysis
- Experience with accounting software and ERP systems (SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms preferred)
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to investigate complex discrepancies
- Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple reconciliation tasks simultaneously
- Solid understanding of accounting principles, financial controls, and audit requirements
- Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all financial work
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to explain financial findings clearly
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment
- Professional demeanor and discretion when handling sensitive financial information
- Preferred: Experience in financial services, banking, or corporate finance environments
