Job Description

The Team Leader, Trade Finance Operations, is responsible for overseeing the execution of both vanilla and bespoke trade finance transactions, ensuring strict adherence to internal procedures, regulatory and compliance requirements, and international standards, while driving operational excellence. The role balances transaction accuracy, risk management, and high-quality client service delivery, alongside leading and developing a high-performing team.

Additionally, the Team Leader serves as a key liaison between clients, internal stakeholders, and external counterparties, safeguarding the bank’s reputation and enabling seamless trade flows.

Qualifications

Type of Qualification: First Degree

Professional Certification: Certified Trade Specialist (e.g., CDCS, CSDG, CITR or equivalent).

AML/CTF certifications and risk management qualifications will be considered an added advantage.

Experience Required

  • 3-4 years banking experience with at least Three (3) years in Trade operations
  • Proven track record in structuring and processing trade finance transactions
  • Experience in risk identification, escalation, and mitigation within Trade Operations.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle complex customer queries.
  • A customer-centric individual with excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • Demonstrated leadership in managing teams and delivering operational efficiencies.

Technical Competencies:

  • Trade Finance Products Knowledge: Practical understanding of Letters of Credit, Collections, Guarantees, Standby Credits, and Supply Chain Finance.
  • ICC Rules: Strong working knowledge of UCP 600, ISBP, URC, URDG, and other ICC guidelines governing trade instruments.
  • Risk Identification & Escalation: Ability to recognize Operational, Compliance, and Credit risks in transactions and guide/escalate promptly.
  • Regulatory & Compliance Knowledge: Familiarity with AML/CFT requirements, sanctions screening, and local/international trade regulations.
  • Operational Excellence: Skilled in transaction processing, review, reconciliation, and documentation management.
  • Project leadership: in implementing trade finance platforms or digital transformation initiatives.
