Job Description

Allstate Protection Plans is looking for a collaborative, high-energy attorney who thrives in a fast-moving environment and enjoys tackling a wide range of legal challenges. In this role, you’ll partner closely with teams across the business, deliver practical, business-minded counsel, and help build scalable legal processes that support a growing global enterprise. 

You’ll be embedded with teams throughout the company, advising on legal risks, business strategies, and issues central to our operations such as commercial contracts, employment, litigation, data privacy, corporate governance, and marketing. Expect to partner closely with internal stakeholders—Business Development, Supply Chain, HR, Marketing, Finance & Accounting, and IT & Engineering—as well as interface with senior management and legal teams at major retailers and carriers. Your goal: reduce friction, improve transaction flow, and enhance customer experience. 

You’ll join a small but mighty team of experienced lawyers who value collaboration, creativity, and having fun while delivering exceptional results. You’ll work in the office at least two days each week to ensure meaningful time spent collaborating and solving problems side by side as a team and with our stakeholders.  

RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:

  • Review, draft and manage variety of legal agreements, including retailer partnerships, supply chain/sourcing deals, and other complex commercial agreements 
  • Lead product development in North America, working with your cross-functional partners to ensure APP’s product accurately describes our promises while also meeting regulatory requirements 
  • Monitor and assess current and emerging legislation to ensure enterprise-wide compliance, and lead the development of internal policies and procedures aligned with state and federal regulatory requirements 
  • Provide strategic legal advisory support across global employment law, global privacy, data security, corporate governance, marketing, and litigation matters 
  • Work without supervision, independently initiate, lead and drive new legal projects and identify and implement ways to improve our processes and operations 
  • Deliver timely, pragmatic, and business-focused legal counsel to your colleagues located throughout the world, even in ambiguous situations  
  • Lead engagement with outside counsel, ensuring effective legal outcomes while maintaining accountability for spend 
  • Manage and develop other attorneys, providing coaching, direction, and oversight to support high-quality legal work and team dynamics 

Qualifications

  • At least 12 years of relevant legal experience, preferably with at least 4 years of in-house experience 
  • JD from an accredited law school and active California bar membership in good standing 
  • Experience in drafting and negotiating commercial agreements  
  • Experience with employment law, litigation, privacy, and/or data security a plus 
  • Exceptional judgment and creativity, with the ability to think strategically and give practical advice appropriately weighing legal risks with business objectives 
  • Entrepreneurial mindset; flexible, self-starting and hard-working 
  • Solution oriented with an ability to push agreements and projects to conclusions while appropriately balancing legal and business risks 
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage and drive multiple projects concurrently 
  • Able to communicate effectively with cross-functional partners as well as upper management

This role is a hybrid role associated with our Bay Area Office office.

SquareTrade estimates the possible base compensation for this role, if hired in the San Francisco Bay Area, California, to be in the range : $210K - $280K
