Job Description

 

We are seeking an experienced Technical Project Manager to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, exceptional project management skills, and a deep understanding of fintech systems and applications. As a Technical Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading projects from inception to completion, ensuring that they are delivered within scope, on time, and within budget. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams, manage resources, and oversee all aspects of the project lifecycle.

You will:

  • Act as the main point of contact for stakeholders, providing regular updates on project status

  • Coordinate and collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineers, business system analysts, data scientists, learning & communications specialists, etc...)

  • Provide guidance, motivation, and support to project team members

  • Manage stakeholder expectations and address any concerns or issues promptly

  • Facilitate effective communication between project team and stakeholders

  • Distribute allocated resources efficiently across tasks and responsibilities to ensure project success

  • Manage third-party vendors and contractors, if applicable

  • Works on problems of diverse scope and complexity where solutions may have to be based on limited information

  • Regularly review and analyze project performance against established metrics and client expectations

  • Develop utilization and success metrics for initiatives within projects you support and collaborate with data teams to design and implement

  • Identify potential risks to project success, and develop mitigation plans

  • Proactively address issues to prevent disruptions to project timelines and deliverables

  • Handle change requests and implement changes while managing project scope

  • Evaluate the impact of changes on project timelines and budgets

  • Identify opportunities for resistance from impacted groups and develop mitigation plans to overcome

Qualifications

Must have: 

  • 5+ years of experience in a Technical Project Manager or similar role

  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies (Agile, Waterfall, etc…)

  • Experience thinking strategically and managing ambiguity across a wide array of issues throughout a project lifecycle

  • Adept at managing up, down and across the organization to get to project completion

  • Excellent project team leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively

  • Experience working with product and technical teams to build and deliver end-to-end solutions with knowledge of the underlying lifecycles, platforms and technologies

  • Demonstrated experience in creating project plans, scheduling, and resource management while adhering to timelines and/or budgets

  • ​​Strong organizational and time management skills: ability to oversee multiple projects simultaneously that are deadline sensitive

  • Skilled in managing relationships with stakeholders, understanding their needs, and managing expectations effectively

  • Ability to frame and distill complex technical details in an appropriate way to technical and non-technical stakeholders

  • Effective problem solving, conflict resolution, and negotiation skills

  • Ability to learn quickly and work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic work environment

Nice to have: 

  • Proficiency in project management tools and software

  • Project Management Professional (PMP, CAPM) certification or equivalent

  • Experience with specific technical domains relevant to the industry (e.g., software development, IT infrastructure, etc…)

  • Familiarity with regulatory compliance and information security

  • Has in-depth knowledge of the function, structure, and services/offerings of project areas you support

  • Understands relevant technical domains related to the projects being managed (e.g., software development, IT infrastructure, engineering, data)

  • Understanding of industry-specific tools, technologies, and methodologies.

  • Commitment to ongoing learning and improvement of project management methodologies and technical skills

  • Willingness to adapt to new technologies, tools, and best practices in the field

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $122,900 - USD $184,300
Zone B: USD $116,700 - USD $175,100
Zone C: USD $110,600 - USD $165,800
Zone D: USD $104,500 - USD $156,700
