Job Description

Block is looking for an IP litigation paralegal to join our counsel team. You will provide organizational and substantive support to our IP litigation team, and partner with paralegals, attorneys, legal operations and additional teams within Block. You will delve into disputes and potential disputes spanning patent, copyright, trademark, and trade secret law.  You will gain an understanding of Block’s teams and their respective products and services.  You will report to our IP Litigation Lead.

You Will:

  • Perform global IP litigation docketing and docket management
  • Collect relevant information for discovery, review, and production                                                 
  • Oversee and improve document preservation notices and processes for responding to related custodian questions
  • Create shells of initial drafts of IP litigation documents, including letters and discovery requests or responses
  • Perform initial diligence on inbound IP licensing demands, such as litigation landscape mapping using Pacer, Westlaw, and DocketNavigator
  • Help coordinate Requests For Proposals on specific matters or longer-term multi-matter engagements
  • Provide procedural guidance to law firms and managing guideline documentation
  • Collaborate with colleagues across IP litigation subteam, Litigation team, IP team, and all teams 
  • From time to time, support other paralegals and counsel across Block’s litigation team

Qualifications

You Have:

  • Minimum 5 years experience in IP litigation at top tier law firm, government, or in-house
  • Experience in some, but not necessarily all, of the following areas of IP litigation: copyright, trademark, trade secret, and patent; some general litigation experience
  • Experience collaborating with internal partners
  • Experience working with team members at all levels, while remaining proactive, and efficient
  • Flexibility and desire to grow as Block's legal needs evolve and expand
  • A team player attitude and skills to help achieve team goals

Additional Information

Block takes a market-based approach to pay, and pay may vary depending on your location. U.S. locations are categorized into one of four zones based on a cost of labor index for that geographic area. The successful candidate’s starting pay will be determined based on job-related skills, experience, qualifications, work location, and market conditions. These ranges may be modified in the future.

Zone A: USD $125,600 - USD $153,600
Zone B: USD $116,800 - USD $142,800
Zone C: USD $110,500 - USD $135,100
Zone D: USD $100,500 - USD $122,900
