Company Description

Block is one company built from many blocks, all united by the same purpose of economic empowerment. The blocks that form our foundational teams — People, Finance, Counsel, Hardware, Information Security, Platform Infrastructure Engineering, and more — provide support and guidance at the corporate level. They work across business groups and around the globe, spanning time zones and disciplines to develop inclusive People policies, forecast finances, give legal counsel, safeguard systems, nurture new initiatives, and more. Every challenge creates possibilities, and we need different perspectives to see them all. Bring yours to Block.

Job Description

The purpose of the Proto team is to accelerate the world’s transition to a more open economy by making products that increase access and independence for everyone. The first two initiatives we’ve identified that represent the biggest impact to this purpose are in the Bitcoin space with Bitcoin mining and Bitkey, a self-custody Bitcoin wallet. While we’re starting there, we don’t believe the need for tools to increase one’s independence is limited to bitcoin or the financial space. One principle across everything we do in Proto is open development – show and tell. We develop products in the open, you can read more about them at bitkey.build and mining.build.

You will be a creative design leader who contributes to brand and marketing design across the entire Proto product line (currently Bitkey and Mining initiatives). As Proto is a small team within Block, every team member is expected to juggle multiple deliverables and dive into many aspects of the product marketing lifecycle. You will lead design for our websites, marketing campaigns, packaging design, branding, and any other channels our products leverage. This is a leadership role that does not manage direct reports. Your leadership and guidance will influence how this team grows and is led with opportunities for people management as the team evolves.

You will partner with Product Marketing, Product Management, Product Design and senior leadership to influence our go-to-market roadmap and determine creative strategies that resonate with our audiences. You will report directly to the Head of Design of Proto, and be part of a community of designers within the Proto team and Block as a whole

You will:

  • Establish a creative vision that impacts short term and long term goals
  • Partner with teams to define and prioritize creative projects, balancing strategic investments across creative programs
  • Scale the team and its processes to support a growing list of countries and programs
  • Deliver world class creative work and campaigns from strategy to execution across multiple channels with impact throughout the entire customer funnel
  • Provide clear feedback and direction to level up the quality and effectiveness of the work of designers throughout the Proto team
  • Represent Proto as an important member of the Block Creative design community
  • Advocate for impactful creative work and the needs of the team with senior leadership and other parts of the organization

Qualifications

You have:

  • 12+ years experience in creative roles focused on consumer or business facing marketing. Preferably with the consumer electronics or hardware devices industry.
  • Experience working on in-house creative teams; ideally you will have a mix of agency and in-house experience
  • A people first, user-centered mindset, and a sensibility for copywriting and design
  • Experience defining and differentiating products and brands
  • Experience influencing roadmaps and navigating stakeholders of all types throughout an organization
  • Experience leading development of integrated marketing campaigns and understand performance-based marketing strategies
  • Working knowledge of production and asset creation in print, digital and video workflows
  • Curiosity for technology and the ongoing evolution of content creation and distribution
