Senior Software Engineer, Business Identities
- Full-time
Company Description
Since we opened our doors in 2009, the world of commerce has evolved immensely, and so has Square. After enabling anyone to take payments and never miss a sale, we saw sellers stymied by disparate, outmoded products and tools that wouldn’t work together.
To solve this problem, we expanded into software and built integrated solutions to help sellers sell online, manage inventory, book appointments, engage loyal buyers, and hire and pay staff. Across it all, we’ve embedded financial services tools at the point of sale, so merchants can access a business loan and manage their cash flow in one place. Afterpay furthers our goal to provide omnichannel tools that unlock meaningful value and growth, enabling sellers to capture the next generation shopper, increase order sizes, and compete at a larger scale.
Today, we are a partner to sellers of all sizes – large, enterprise-scale businesses with complex operations, sellers just starting, as well as merchants who began selling with Square and have grown larger over time. As our sellers grow, so do our solutions. There is a massive opportunity in front of us. We’re building a significant, meaningful, and lasting business, and we are helping sellers worldwide do the same.
Job Description
Square provides financial services to sellers. To do so requires understanding fundamental, verifiable details about sellers’ identities. It is impossible to build a payments and banking platform without having a firm grasp of who the participants in a transaction are and enabling features based on that. Identity is key to managing fraud, risk, and compliance. It's essential to providing low-cost payments, personalized banking services, and magical customer experiences.
The Business Identities (BID) team is part of Square’s Trusted Identity platform, which comprises the systems and services we use to onboard sellers to Square to take payments and use other financial services. The BID team owns the backend systems that represent and validate the information we gather about individuals and sellers who sign up to be Square sellers - a critical step in our ability to offer financial services to customers across the globe.
The BID team is hiring a Senior Software Engineer to lead its effort to build Square’s next-generation system for storing, verifying, and updating the legal information that we gather from our sellers when they onboard to start taking payments with Square. As a Senior Software Engineer on the BID team, you will build scalable and secure solutions to store and verify sellers’ identity information and help them gain access to the global financial system.
